I haven't played this game in ages, but what I know so far is that as your RR increases, you unlock more gear from RR vendors in each tier. I have also seen vendors selling gear for PvP tokens, again limited by RR. Influence gear I don't know a ton about. You do PQs and it's kind of like a rep grind...
