Since a recent Windows 10 update, some people, myself included, have had problems getting the launcher to start. Avast will falsely identify it as a Trojan. I've emailed them about it directly, and they've whitelisted it, but still, this issue continues. There is a workaround to get the launcher working, which you can see below:
1. Open Avast, this may be in your hidden icons on the bottom bar of your Windows screen
2. Once you've opened Avast, click on the Protection tab which will open this window
3. Click on "Core Shields". It will take you to this screen
4. Click on "Settings". I've highlighted on this screenshot with a red arrow
5. Then you'll see this. Turn Core Shields "Off" - select the 10 minute option
Ignore the rest of it
Then run the launcher, and turn Core Shields immediately back on again once you've got RoR running. You can then close Avast and it will continue to run as normal without affecting RoR

Re: Fix for Avast Blocking Launcher
Or you uninstall it and run either Windows Defender or any other AV, which doesn't cause this false positive. :^)
Dying is no option.
Re: Fix for Avast Blocking Launcher
Well yes, there is that too
Re: Fix for Avast Blocking Launcher
You can do the same thing just with right-click on avast icon, choose the second option and then disable avast for 10 mins.
Re: Fix for Avast Blocking Launcher
Why don't you just whitelist it on your PC? add it as a global whitelist and Avast should ignore it. That's how every other virus protection works...
Disabling protection everytime to open a program seems odd to me....

Avast is a bit odd with whitelisting. I removed it.
