One thing you might be forgetting is that 40's might be stacking WS which will further knock down how much you can mitigate with armor.

Got 17k during the new years fights in elf before although that was during the x2 renown weekend.

This happens alot in dwarf due to how often it stalemates. Really the only fix needed is no more tics if your side is at 100% much like how tics dry up at 3 stars in t4 rvr.
