EoV/FoDG being castable on the move was basically AM/Shaman's only redeeming factor in serious warband play.

In the long term renown rank is more important than career rank. It's not a big deal if one falls behind the other, but you will be weaker until your renown rank catches up. I would go with a DPS Shammy.

Shaman can provide lifetap healing to keep both of you in the fight, and ideally you want two DPS classes so you can kill healers and other tough targets. Both Magus and Shaman have good kiting toolkits that complement each other.
