It's kinda sad, that events kinda transformed into numb repeated tasks that turned from funny and quick achievements into absolute time consuming chores. Don't get me wrong, most events are still fun and you can see the passion put into them. But then at the end you mostly get nothing.
Sure Capes are cool. But Capes do not fit the Fashion style of every class and player. But those are kinda the only lasting rewards beside some rare occasions where we get to keep mask, hats and stuff. But those are the absolute exception now and really rare. It kinda feels that all we get nowadays is Stuff with a timer. Things that you get, just to loose it after 60 days again. So there we are. Having played this game for such a long time now, that we sit there and have to decide on which of our 8+ chars we are willing to invest all that time to achieve the event rewards, just to see them vanish after some weeks anyway. And when it comes to items that are really something everybody wants to get and everybody waited for event X to come back, suddenly the RNG for that item to drop is set to like 1%.
Yes the Grind is part of MMORPGs. We all know that. We grew up with that kinda things.
The bigger the effort you put into getting something, the better you feel when finally getting it. The longer it takes to reach the maximum level, the longer you keep that player/customer. Yes yes the old 1o1 of live service online games. And the oldest problem in said game genre. The different kind of player types. Those who leave when they reach the peak. Those who leave when they feel the way to the peak is to long. And those who leave when there are no new peaks to climb after the first. Satisfying all of those is hard.
But i think that the one thing they can all agree on is, that when the rewards for reaching the peak, is just a T shirt stating that you managed to take part in the climb and a self deleting thingy with a backwards running timer. The effort of self motivation to take part in the next events gets
harder and harder.
