It is important to remember the reason why gun turret was nerfed and the magus daemon wasn't was because machine gun was making gun turret better than the magus daemon thanks to silly procs from WP / BW buffs.

But nerfing the range on the turret created issues due to the gun turret also having the armor debuff, and not being able to put the armor debuff up at full range hurt the usefulness of the range increase.

The change to machine gun and spike squig helped to fix an imbalance and problem when it came to proc builds, and with that change gun turret become weaker to the daemon.

So adjusting the range back helped to even it out again, and fix the issue created with the armor debuff.

It is a very good change in my opinion, that shows what the dev's take into account when it comes to skill balancing and re-balancing, and the fact that for a lot of things there is an interconnected web you need to look at.

For most engi's this comes out as a wash since you lose a bit of the proc craziness, but you regain a bit more usefulness from the range increase thanks to now getting the armor debuff up faster.
