I also care to see THEIR appearance.
People have different priorities in live and care about different things - mind blown.

Exactly, why can't people just be exactly like you? Makes wayy more sense than to try and understand different perspectives.

Everyone should totally be happy with having their appearance useless half the time in game. Player expression is overrated anyway. The devs should delete dyes too to free up assets on the server for performance as well. Totally.

From the poll you get in the city:

"Have you experienced a player who was trying to disguise their skill using appearance gear
to explicity trick players in orvr"

I have to say: is this for real? Is this the real reason for the change? Have anyone
ever complained about such a thing? Do people pick a fight against level 40's based on how
their gear look? Oh look at that **** gear and I guess also crappy skills. Now its time to pick a fight!

Someone attacked an enemy player, prob. in 1 vs 1, expected an easy fight, got beaten,
checked armory and got butthurt about it?

For some classes, like magus, the starting gear looks great if you like it clean and neat.
Nobody is trying to fool anyone.

Yeah this whole thing doesn't make sense. It has become apparent that there was no deliberation behind this change, and the reasoning behind it came after the fact, when the majority of the community went up in arms about it - and rightfully so.

Explanations from higher upper keyboards we have seen thus far:

1) Its an unintentional change as we unpacked some data. Oh well. We don't wanna be like live but on this particular issue, we will be extra conservative and essencialist about it.

2) Its an intentional change about performance.

3) Its neither an intentional nor an unintentional change, and it could be about performance, but we don't really know, nor could we know. We just did it. RIP to your countless hours of setting up your looks.

4) Its about players not being able to mask their true gear. (while a whole transmogrify system is up and running at the same time - and multiple quests / rewards / TOK unlocks yield cosmetic items)

It was also an accident that happened when a pet turtle got loose and changed some values so we had to guess at changing them back.

Team members and other community members spent some time on a Sunday to create, translate and push this survey the soonest and that's all you two care about?

We're asking to gather as much data for this topic as possible, and there are loads of people who encountered a player appearing to be lower geared. We want to know how the community feels about this in order to enlarge our pool of answers, should we ever need it in the future.

The initial change was due to several reasons; The performance improvement we expect to happen, the similarity to live and the ability for new players to see the right gear of their enemies since they're usually not familiar yet with high end gear. But the most important one was the improvement of performance, we also asked that in the survey to see if you experienced anything positive.

If it helps with performance i'm all for it.

People need to calm down. You look at some of those posts, it's like they monetised resurrecting.

The survey is an excellent move and thank you. That though, doesn't change the fact that this whole issue seems to be communicated in a convoluted manner, which is somewhat reflected on the survey also.

I am going to take this one step further. EVERYONE has encountered players choosing to sport gear appearance different than their actual gear (higher / lower / equal tier). This is not some surprising discovery, but rather a mutual & common understanding across the community, given that the transmog feature not only has been implemented for years, it is also massively popular amongst the playerbase, so much so that some players log in to experience just that. Fashionhammer.

It is not like there are some obscure, vile, sneaky cheaters that found a way to "illegally" bypass the system and alter their appearance in order to grief and/or fool others in RvR. Electing to phrase that in the survey in a manner that might imply something along those lines, is unfair and misleading as well as leaving it hanging in the air without the context of the aforementioned transmog feature being a given. There was never any issue arisen from anyone complaining about players fooling other players using their looks. At least not to this extend as to be thrown in as an explanation for a change this big. It has been mentioned before, multiple times, in chats, in streams, in the forums and ,I am sure, in the survey itself as feedback, that anyone who in this context (of the given fact of transmogrifying), informs their choice to fight someone or not fight someone, based on the appearance of their targets gear, not to be blunt or anything, is not someone whose opinion should be taken into consideration. For obvious reasons.

If you select to do so though, then go ahead and remove the alt appearance feature altogether. I am sure this will solve the issue of knowing who to fight (lol), and will satisfy the cynics who make fun of those who "care about looks" (without understanding that it is called a VIDEO game for a reason).
