[WH] Confusing Movements vs Exoneration

Hey all,
I've been wondering recently, is it worth using Exoneration as a rank 1 Morale over Confusing Movements? Namely, the situation would be in a warband setting. I am aware that CM is very good, especially in 1v1 or when outnumbered. But since it cannot negate magic damage (and it seems there is a lot of those these days), and I find that most of my deaths are from status effects and from magic damage, would Exoneration be better to use for general RvR? Or would it only be good if there weren't a lot of healers in a warband, and since WH doesn't have a lot of self healing sources in general. I'd like to know what some more experienced players think.

Hey @3rdworldofficer

Both Exoneration and Confusing Movements absolutely have their place, I typically switch between these based on what I'm encountering more often out in the lakes.

Typically I might carry it more often if I've gone DG as I've got access to Repel Blasphemy and it leaves my Relic cooldown open to pop smoke rather than use Shroud.

However, there's an argument to be said towards using shroud as a means to not have to use exoneration. So as you can see, this choice in my mind comes down to a lot of personal preference.

If I'm ganking— my definition of this is when I will deliberately put myself in a bad situation to quickly frag a target of opportunity and then escape- I'll be more likely to run Exoneration as there's no point getting back into incognito if you're getting smashed by 100 dots.

The benefit of being a Witch Hunter means that we can often take the time to observe our prey and make some informed decisions about the fight as we set the terms of the engagement.

This is also a vital time to consider tactic swaps and morale changes.

I'm pretty bad at remembering to do this myself, but on some occasions I'll remember to switch a tactic to Vindication and run shroud against a lone Magus and laugh as they explode.

Ah, I see. So it's situational. I kind of guessed I'd get such an answer. But it is interesting to hear this take, as all guides I've read so far always say to run CM and nothing else. As my main build doesn't use Shroud, Exoneration would be the only defense against magic. Plus, it cleanses instantly, whereas healers only heal the damage (though they should be cleansing, I just don't see it a lot). But thanks for the input!

in solo roaming, ganking, 1v1s and the like it's an easy decision typically.

if you engaging a healer, sorc or magus then exoneration is your pick to cleanse their load of dots and debuffs.

if you are engaging a tank, mara, squig, dual wield/shield dok, witchelf or choppa then confusing movements.

you can swap them if you are out of combat, even in stealth. same with tactics, it's good to have specific tactic pages set up to swap to before you engage a certain fight.

for group content though such as SC, warband or city siege it's always going to be confusing movements though since majority of the danger is going to come from melee sources.
