New player, class advice request

Hello all, I hope to be in the right section.
I've never played this game before, not even when official servers were up. Can you give me an advice on which class would suit me? I usually like playing the cc heavy kind of mage, like WoW warlock for example. My preferred faction would be destruction.

Magus might suit you.

Sorc is more aoe/single target burst. Warlock fireball spec basicly

As said, Magus is the dot spec with a support pet. Basicly a dot Warlock with an imp.

As I am currently traversing the seven circles of hell with shite Internet and worse ...autocorrecting device of pure evil, someone break down the following bits:

-Immunities
-Group dependance
-Pugs using CC on CD (i.e. the bane of my existence)
-Limitations of Magi/Sorcs/Shaman(/SH [i.e. Bad Gad]
-Soft/Hard CC and the relevant formats

I suggest: play a tank, or a Magus in organized large scale.
