This is a myth, the burst from both classes comes from dot/debuff setup followed by nuke and their respective channeled spells (using the 50% tick/duration reduction tactic). AM have an extra DoT though so higher sustain, but burst is equal.
Burst is not equal and anyone having both classes knows it.
Dying is no option.

Not going to explain you all tricks but burst is damage in one timestamp and shaman 2sec cast has flight time opposed to am skills.
You debuff over 200 toughness as well, which results in 0 mitigation on some squishy targets.
Dying is no option.
