They are a great combo. If you go DPS DoK and either DPS or tank BG you can wreck healers completely with -50% incoming heals and -50% outgoing heals making the healer only heal themselves for 25% of their normal output. Plus the Bg has armor debuff, defense debuff and increased crit chance debuff to help the DoK do more damage (and thus more healing to keep you both alive).
In this case the 3rd player should play zealot or shaman, because both of them lack resist buff and can be kited.
Dying is no option.

Disregarding that, would chosen be more useful than bg?

Chosen / DOK use to be one of best combo's... still pretty good despite nerfs

BG is also good, its very good in small scale (less useful in large scale compared to chosen/bork)

If you wanted more aggressive approach BG / DOK better choice... but BG is harder to learn than chosen which is more straight forward

so it comes down to personal preference... also depends on role if Tank is 2hander vs SNB... if dok is DPS vs Healer... and your third guy being a SH is very useful (good kiter/ganker/rdps assist... Magus is too stationary... sorc is too squishy and can kill self without proper support)

Having heal debuffs, helps you guarantee kills which should help you create some momentum and give enemy healers headache to rez or heal...

you heal debuff a target and burst it down, while the tank punt (knocks away) the tank which is guarding target and just keep applying pressure... swapping around targets to best choice and finding weakest link... or your tank knocks down over extended enemy dps, punts it into your backlines further out of range of its healers/line of sight... and you gank it while its alone.

For BG I would roll 2h, for chosen SnB. Seems right, asthetically :D The DoK would go heal for sure! Our third willpropably run marauder..
From your point of view, what would you roll? Chosen or BG?

I was one of the first rr 80 chosens on server so you shouldnt ask me a question that i cant be imparital on :twisted:

I've given BG also alot of ribbing over the years... because quite frankly it underperformed in large scale in comparison... but was always good in small scale... its gotten better in large scale because of target cap improvement so its in a better place than it use to be... and chosen is in a worse place than it use to be also so the gap is alot closer.

It comes down to personal preference... BG is more demanding and like playing the piano...

I would recommend chosen because of your combination and the lack of resistances you will get... Shaman/zealot/chosen buff resistances... if you run blackguard/dok/mara you will probably be around 20% resistances unless overly invested into it with winds jewlery and still not capped...

but with Chosen aura + resistance (can run 3 auras, toughness/resistance, and anti healing or something which suits you) this will help improve your groups resistance to around 40% (cap) or atleast cancel out enemy knight of the blazing sun using his aura to debuff your resistance even more

SO magical casters... BW / DPS AM/RP... swordmasters spirit dmg etc... won't eat you for breakfast as much

also chosen can instantly do a long knockback with little setup required... blackguard needs its hate to 100 for a proper long knockback(exile)

Also if you go tanky / tanky deftard ... allows mara to go more glassy/dps and if you swap guard back and forth should help your team a bit...
