There is an open bug report addressing exactly this issue, so we might see a fix for that at some point.

And the fact 90% of the time the pull just turns you backway, without any hope of parry/block during the entire flight duration. This character-turning effect may be even more deadly than the pull itself.
This effect, if unintended (since GtdC is not meant to be unblockable), is a bug that needs serious attention, and hopefully a fix at some point.
