Increasing the target cap to 24 is the original balance design sin of RoR. It should have been obvious that increasing incoming damage by 2.5x would require commensurately increasing heals or mitigation. Adding AoE channels that do more damage than ST abilities just doubled down on the problem. The result of the 24 target cap and AoE channels is dumbed down large scale combat which also necessitated innumerable changes to adjust class/archetype balance to account for it. If the situation is such that the people can die with no heals in 3 seconds but they can also be brought back to full HP also in 3 seconds under no incoming damage, then that would be "balanced" regarding rates.
But then, all it would take is for the healers to blink for 1 second or for a well positioned CC to pretty much end a fight in under 5 seconds. For a healthier METAgame where people don't mindlessly W+channel their enemies to death and are instead incentivized to assist each other and ST them down, we would need a reduction in the overall damage rate (i.e. blanket dps nerfs). Probably coupled with healer output nerfs to deescalate the rate-creep.

well you got it wrong i think ST mara is by far WAY more fearsome than aoe mara. Aoe mara is just not good, especially with msh and choppa on the line. You take a mara in warband for it's ST dmg (mid) , and it's debuff power (left). For aoe you dont take mara..
Tho you missed one thing about aoe, destro has too much aoe stagger/mez/stun, that is freaking annoying these days.
About the mara, everyone one of them go at least in right tree to get that aoe stun. but that's about it. If you find an aoe mara, then he's missing something and want to chill /like to play this way, but it's not optimal. Mara's job is to aoe interrupt/debuff and assist in ST in the current state of the game. One mara can hinder a well stacked blob of support for a good while. that could be see as owerpowered.
Also AA from marauder are VERY strong, especially if you mid tree, this can often do freaking lots of dmg (could see that as burst but not under your control)
While now the WL has WAY less sustain ST dmg (DW vs 2H in the proc current meta, and mid tree of mara is very very strong), but WL has a short higher burst and control it ( CS ) if he's ST specced and playing with his pet. But most WL you see in warband are left tree high and loner cause aoe are very good, and works very well with tactics. Yet it lacks the good tactis of mara (PB,FOF, etc).
on the other side, on most aoe lol build WL has only acess to 1 aoe interrupt.
so AOE WL =! AOE mara by any means. Mara losts it's aoe dmg power long ago in some nerf.
Order's slayer gottuned down too much, not much people plays it in warband.
Overall , rather than trying to resolve a problem by narrow it down to 2 career, it would have be a better way to understand what the meta is currently, it's all about aoe (m or rdps). so when you die instantly in orvr, it's because you are in the wrong spot and met the meat grinder ( aka wall of tanks/mdps ).
So is the meta, all about aoe in large scale when ya get 20 or more DPS(not even talking about the tank) actively targetting you, you're dead no matter what the tooltip said.
