The case of the UserSettings.xml and the Mystery Data

Here's a mystery for any technically inclined people. I made changes to my UserSetting.xml file. I adjusted mouse sensitivity. Saved the file. I could see the changes were saved. In game the changes had no effect. I changed the value multiple times.

I began to suspect my changes to UserSettings.xml were never going to work, because I noticed that my in game settings for the screen size of 1366x768 did not match the config file which showed 1920x1080.

Here comes the weird part...

I accidentally opened the file with the Open command instead of opening in Notepad++. It opened the file in Internet Explorer. In this uneditable form, it showed the 1366x768 setting. Well, this is odd, I thought. How can the same file show two different things in two different programs? Eventually, for science, i created a blank txt file, changed it's name to UserSettings.xml, and dropped it in the subdirectory. Opened in Notepad++ and it was blank, as it should be. Opened in Internet Explorer and it had all the actual in game settings just like before. I checked the file location for both programs, and it was looking at the same file.

I have never seen such a thing before.

yeah mouse_sensitivity has no effect, because I think it was never implemented ingame. Btw. If you are doing changes on your UserSettings.xml while you are ingame the settings won't save correctly. Close your game, delete the content of your Cache folder, change and save your UserSettings and after that, test it again.

I edit UserSettings.xml when the game is turned off. When i run the game, it doesn't change the changes I made back, it just ignores them.

When you saved the file with Notepad, you sure it didn’t save the file as UserSettings.xml.txt? You could have two files now after the save and ignoring the .txt file.

This post basically comes down to, he cant play because the mouse moves too fast. He means moving the mouse a tiny bit spins his character around 30 times. There seems to be no way to edit the mouse sensitivity.

Plenty of ways to change mouse speed. Use the mouse software, use windows setting, button on the mouse itself... I don’t know what mouse he’s using but Logitech, Corsair, etc. all have easy options to adjust speed.
