Re: [SL] why so unpopular?
Bad examples
In TF2 the classes all have their pro's and cons and are not inherently op.
Is there a team full of Darth Vader clones fighting a team of rebel soldiers? - No. The numbers of "op" special classes are limited.
Same with Mechwarrior Online, there are many different assault mechs, the Atlas isn't top tier and there is constant balancing happening. Lower weight classes can outmaneuver them too.
Dying is no option.
Re: [SL] why so unpopular?
Slayer needs nothing, it already got so much (they are still up by a good margin relative to before they got a channel and whatnot). What is needed is for WL to be brought down in the damage department to fit their mobility and otherwise non-existent dependencies that let them just go and do damage, where they need to, exactly when they need to. WL being overbuffed doesn't mean SL needs to be overbuffed to compete.CountTalabecland wrote: ↑Sun Sep 29, 2024 3:26 pm The slayer’s damage used to be worth all of the babysitting and support that it needs. Now, post nerf, it is not worth it.
Super uneconomical DPS compared to the more survivable/mobile dps classes that do the same or greater damage.
Slayer needs 1) more damage, 2) more survivability, or 3) more CC or utility.

Re: [SL] why so unpopular?
WL is so overnerfed like everything fun and powerful (sad but really is true) in RoR. If anyone played Wl,Shammy,Dps Dok/Wp,Blorc Shield dps,Choppa,Welf,Bw,Sh Magus Mara are the classses i truely played live and the versions nowadays of every of those classes are so much more bland and boring and homogenized for balance purposes = bad move
We need Power and Faster Gameplay, but smaller aoe cap with more powerful CC like 50% Aoe heal debuffs back with uncapped morale dmg. We need something more than morale drain and literally pve'ing keeps. Only pve that should happen in normal rvr like is the guard Bo's back! And npc horse someone needs to rightclick to deliver resourses with 25% movement speed. And it coudl be killed and healed carrying resourses instead of you is obviously more fun and creates more skirmishes and action because you can heal and buff the Box Runner and when you kill and heal it you get renown so everyone wants to kil it or heal itl or keep it alive and kill the players around the npc as well.

Re: [SL] why so unpopular?
Slayer was overtuned for smallscale group fights due to the overpowered debuff called 'Shatter Limbs' which prevented opponents from performing optimal ability spams that put adequate pressure on the glass cannon dps character that the slayer is. Another thing was the 0 seconds cooldown trick for 'Inevitable Doom'. If AoE cooldown debuffs were just removed from DPS characters and Slayer had its 'Inevitable Doom' fixed at like 5-7 sec cooldown and immune to any cooldown decreasing tools - Slayer would've still been in a good spot.

You're confusing power fantasy with overpowered.
Those videos show examples of playing a power fantasy in a multiplayer game. A tank class with a minigun, stomping around in a giant mech, and playing as Darth freaking Vader all give the player a sense of living out a power fantasy they don't get to experience in real life. This is also true for the sniper that headshots the heavy, the smaller mech than flanks and destroys the atlas, and another hero taking out Vader. As I said, it's one of the reasons people play video games. I'd love RoR to follow those examples and have every class feel powerful, rather than the constant toning down we are seeing happen like with the BW/Sorc mechanic change. Have the weekly rampage/gtdc nerf threads gone because they are now balanced, or because those abilities have been nerfed to irrelevancy?
Overpowered on the other hand you are right, it doesn't belong in a multiplayer game as something can only be considered overpowered in comparison to something else. How something is deemed overpowered is an interesting discussion, but not for this thread.

Re: [SL] why so unpopular?
All a question of perspective I guess. Let me explain. For me a power fantasy is, when you outperform anyone opposing you on a individual basis.Culexus wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 5:09 pm

When you play a Battlemech during campaign mode and shoot down waves of tanks and gunships attacking you with ease, you feel powerful. Enemy ai mechs on the other hand won't aim as good as you can do, the fight isn't fair at all and you will be able to destroy them all. The player experience would be horrible, if the fight is balanced and win chances are 50:50.
When there are balancing measures in place to allow everyone a joyful game time, no matter what class/e.g. mech you select, then there can be no power gaps in a general sense.
Shooting pve trash mobs in horde shooter with a minigun and your whole screen explodes with bodyparts then this is the power fantasy the players want in such a type of game.
You outperform any opposition and their only chance to take you down is vast superior numbers.
This is nothing you can implement in a balanced game with fixed player numbers.
When you have a Darth Vader, you have at least some Jedi on the other side to counter this hero role and establish balance of both sides.
Dying is no option.
Re: [SL] why so unpopular?
Its easy - some genius decided it would be a good idea to give 70% or orders dps to high elves - the remaining 30% gets divided up between the other peasant careers.

WL is overpowered, the barely functioning class relying on the bugged pet?what63 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 12:39 pmSlayer needs nothing, it already got so much (they are still up by a good margin relative to before they got a channel and whatnot). Destros and their never ending quest to nerf anything remotely good on order.
Meanwhile, choppas and maras still pull through the walls, floors and doors while destro side has access to 2 immunity-ignoring AOE punts with order having 0.
