[WP] The Grace mastery dilemma

So I have been playing warrior priest focusing on the grace tree. According to the skills, Grace WP is supposed to be an offensive healer, which means he needs to be up onto the enemy's face in order to do the job. On paper that sounds cool, but after playing i noticed that it isn't easy. In fact, it takes an insane amount of skill to do half the job of what a regular healer does. The grace skills heal off your melee damage, however, the mastery kinda encourages the player to use shields as well, which means grace wp should be using 1h hammer and shield? doesn't that lower his damage instead?

Onto my second point, the grace warrior priest relies too much on good items, i feel that he is the kind of class that either feels OP or garbage, depending on the items. If you don't have good items, might as well reroll to salvation until you get the perfect set that makes you somehow useful.

So please help me clarify this dilemma: Is the grace WP considered strong or weak in general? I have been playing him for a week, but man facing tanks and kiters made me most of the time feel super useless. It has been either: getting kited, doing almost no damage to tanks, or getting focused and killed fast because i don't have good defensive skills. Need help please. Thank you
