The ability has its potential, but there so many downsides for using it, for example:
- damage is laughable compared to Absolution, even with BW buff and two possible bullet proccs
- denies autoattacks, when Inquisitor's Fury +50% auto is available for WH
- it stops any of your AP regen for the whole 3sec, and you are quite AP hungry aside the opener
- can be interrupted, wasting hard earned 5 accusations
Besides, even with the RoR nature of channelling abilities and their kinda wierd range, WH still lacks reliable snare and weaponskill buffs to make it somewhat useful. No real reason to use it when you have Absolution or even Burn Away Lies.

I don't get the sentiment that if a class is in a "good" spot, then it's terrible / non viable abilities should go untouched.

One spec for a class may be in a good spot, but that doesn't necessarily mean everything in the class is perfectly fine.

This specific idea is addressed in the balance forum's rules. It will not be allowed as an argument to shut down discussion of a poor or useless feature of a class based on the current viability of that class. Proposing changes or replacement of an ability which could boost a class's viability in an already strong main spec if it were to be buffed would be valid, but not simply blocking the discussion without proposing a solution.

Exactly. If the class works well, we should add sideways progression in the form of more viable specs and combinations. If the class is OP, buff the underused abilities and nerf the overused ones.

Is there a way to get the exact numbers of what abilities and how much they are used?

I wouldn't even bother with mass analysis, because it doesn't matter what random players use. Look at what the best groups are using and you'll likely see 0 Trial by Pains.

Yeah a skill that wasn't in my bar long on wh its not burst in any way shape or form and I had other skills with much better damage over time. Every time a wh uses it on me I don't feel threatened.
Raising the damage or granting additional bullet procs are the obvious easy buffs that spring to mind, you could have the damage start small and build as its channelled (like bleed um out), additional push back or disorients while casting are ok.
Just a few ideas not really suggestions just spit balling.

That's for certain, if in any case an analysis is needed - how one can determine the best groups?

Just put up a poll, see how it turns out.
