There's got to be a way we can indirectly fund the server. Whoever is hosting us, sell T-shirts that cost 40 bucks that are unrelated to RoR... something. Anything

That costs money they would either need to increase bandwidth or black hole connections.. The largest volumetric attacks out there are generally reflected NTP or DNS amplification attacks.

if we start a gofundme, they can't say no. and i don't think it would hurt anything. we need to buy them something that'll stop these attacks.

We can't buy them anything, and they would not accept it if we did.

what if a very wealthy (or pre-crowdfunded) individual applies for a job with them, and then puts up his own capital as a personal investment?

we wont take any money, sorry not happening.

Also we are hosting the server of a large company (name eludes me atm) so even if we got money to increase hardware we cant do it.

Yep. Very strange indeed. The server went down around the same time yesterday as well.

If you like playing the game, then keep playing it....FOR FREE. I get that people think throwing money at it make it better or make the dev's work harder, but it doesn't work that way. If this game makes money without the dev's here OWNING the ip, it will be shut down. Its just that simple. Only crowdfunding loophole that would work, is raising enough money to buy the MMO license from Games Workshop or EA or who ever owns it and then relaunch the game. Sad I know, but I'm happy that these people take the time to even make this happen. :D
