That is correct. Standard rotation relies on two hardcasts and travel time to bypass gcd and align all abilities to hit at the same moment

Pyroclastic Surge is also viable because it has a delay before damage enough to make it hit simultaneously with Sear and Nova/WitheringHeat

Fireball isn't perfect because it takes more time to cast and deals elemental damage, but when it works it hits harder of course

Just dont stay like this, positioning is very important in this game.Resist will help too, chosen aura and maybe Winds Impervious set.

How should I position myself better? I was in the starting position. Summon Pet. Bang and am in wc. Get out of the sc?

The game should not allow such a thing. 1,5 sec pvp.

Actually your fireball seems like it happened after your nova but in the same second with nova. So I guess even though you cast fireball earlier than nova its dmg is applied later than nova due to the delay on its dmg tick ?

Fireball has flight time, so i can cast sear+nova after it and everything will land almost in one moment.
