A bug that is not being tackled by devs and growing for months? You are kidding right?
You're right, perhaps the devs are a bunch of mean-spirited villains who built a comically large lever labelled "LAG" and are grouped around it cackling as they pull it further and further towards "MAXIMUM" each day.
Or maybe they're already working on it and it's actually quite a hard problem to solve, especially for a bunch of people who have jobs to work and lives to live.
Who can say?
I know, it's like these devs only made this game to epically prank players, to punish them so these clearly mean devs can get their kicks in, laughing about how they trolled and pwnd these hapless players so hard.
That's gotta be it, right? Not, you know, an easily-explainable alternative? Surely, the devs MUST be intentionally malicious.

In reality probably none of them has had the time yet because they are actual human beings with jobs, friends and families and working on ror is just a hobby for them.

It would not only be sad if LNM left but also terrible for the server's health.
While I understand this is a volunteer project, I do feel in certain cases priority attention and work should be turned to parts of the game that suffer the most. Like RvR, Performance or Scenarios.
In the end without devs there is no server, but without players it's all meaningless.

Ok, sorry! It seems a few others have too, since several people seem to have reacted in the same way. Could you clarify what you did mean, for me and those people too? Thanks.

Not sure it is that the reason or if that is connected to the problem at all but the first lag problems begins when the avoidance formula was changed so you negate max only half of enemy avoidance stats. Before that i rarely had any lag even at mass fights at lotd. Now mass fights are abit unplayable and zerg always wins
indeed, it all started when the avoidance patch dropped and its getting worse day by day. LOTD is unplayable , you stand in the blob for 20 seconds, no skills/abilities/potions work , you just stare at the screen and suddenly all the dmg ticks in 1 second. Lately that has been happening in Fortresses, regular keeps and open rvr areas as well, irrespective of population (i could be somewhere in t2 pve and mounting would take 15 seconds, like wtf)
would be nice to get some acknowledgement of the issue by the devs

Recently Max wrote somewhere that they combat some memory leaks that lag the server. So it is known issue. Still would be good to have some official confirmation here

What were the 'avoidance' changes that happened that keep getting mentioned that perhaps impacted performance?

I'm assuming they're referring to the patch in October that made it so that you can only strikethrough a maximum of 50% of your targets max avoidance, which also factors in buffs/debuffs on yourself and the target. I'd imagine it's that, in tandem with the change to target centric AOE abilities (think Acid Bomb/Frag Grenade, Spiral Fletched Arrow/Broadhead Arrow with Split Arrows) with the original ability system rework which used to only factor in your primary targets defences, and then would apply the effect to everyone in range if the primary target failed to defend it - as opposed to now, where these abilities do individual defence checks on every single target in range. So a Frag Grenade into a crowd of 100 tightly packed people used to do one set of defence calculations, whereas now it'll do 100 different sets of defence calculations - as well as presumably additional checks to handle the strikethrough cap which was added in October.
In saying that though, the change to how these target centric AOE abilities was in the game from December 2023 and there weren't really any noticeable issues, so I'm guessing if it is related to the avoidance change then it's because of poor implementation - but nobody can really say for sure except those with access to the source code
