I think you're right.

Another reason to support this.

that was the case cos they made the gear redundant cos of the new gear and fast progression. Here the situation is different but the game and the environment is also quite different and they justify moving away from the grind. When ppl refuse to cooperate cos they grind atm there is something wrong \mostly at the ppl themselves\

From patch 1.4.1: (http://warhammeronline.wikia.com/wiki/Game_Update_1.4.1)

"Decimator, Obliterator, Devastator, Conqueror, Invader, Warlord, and Worn Sovereign armors are available for purchase for coin from Black Market merchants in the cities".

Oh yes, I remember how much people loved that. It took sooo long to farm tokens, your RR could get you the next tier of gear, but you couldn't buy it cause of stupid tokens.

+1 for this.

The problem is there is currently no incentive to fight against overwhelming odds, and there is too much incentive to AFK for medals or switch sides at the last moment to levelup/gear up alts then switch back.

Some ideas:

BO's should be worth 1 medal a take, 2 in AAO environment.

Keeps/Zone flip should be worth 2 medals base, and additional medals based on BO takes/defenses/kills made by your party etc... To discourage realm swapping at the last moment and AFKing, and actually participating in ORvR.

Kills should have a 25% chance to drop medals, but only on level 26 players, chance should be increased in an AAO environment to ~50%.

The AAO/Underdog environment should not be so rewarding that it overshadows "winning", and creates an atmosphere of perpetually playing the underdog to abuse RR/medals etc...

I agree with that. That's an excellent proposition.

I play destro and order but ny chosen is my main - This morning I lost three pieces of RvR armor (glove boots and shoulders) and 5 medallions...
But I still think it was the right decision...
Of course after the few battles at Mandred and the 1.5 WB of order loging off and destro numbers swelling by... surprisingly one warband or so... we knew something was amiss :-D
I still had a great time, thumbs up to the few orders that stayed on to chat (Renork...) and the devs who let us know (GitHub, Dana...) that things were not supposed to be like this... although the git did not have the courage to warn us of the incoming wipe.
It was great to see so many destro working together and to revisit the shadowlands... I had a blast :-D
