Fair enough, i will provide some context. I joined a 4 man with my W-Lion and made enough War Crests to the point i find it unethical

at this rate it's trivializing content, balance is off the roof to put it gently and it does not create a good environment in game, a lot of griefing will happen over time. Compared to the old system, i'm making progress at least 10 x times faster than previously on this toon.
Then i joined a Warband with my SnB IB to see the difference and dear lord, 2 hours in the zone i'm not earning what my WL did in 15 minutes. I think RVR should promote Warband play and not these small scale roaming groups, they have a huge advantage atm in how fast they are aquiring War Crests. War Crest per kill is an obvious outlier and should be nerfed considerably, bag/gear cost ratio somewhat balanced to the old system( With Weeked event and zone locks into consideration).

My understanding of gear progression is that you need to buy a full set in order to get to the next one, from braggart to sov.
Assuming the devs want to keep the pvp ward progression system (requiring previous set to buy the next set), I'd like to suggest a small change.
It mostly affects dps classes but you might want to mix and match sets of the same tier (3 conq + 3dom or 4 vanq + 2 opp), now if you'd get the "universal" tier unlock whether you buy for example a dominator helm or a conqueror one, instead of the current system where you chose to grind one full set of vanquisher OR oppressor.
This would give more options for gearing during progression.

This would actually be similar to the "ward" system back on live in that the ward was unlocked/improved per-slot rather than on a set-by-set basis. The game UI might be reusable for this as there are already ward unlocks in the Tome of Knowledge, although I think there's only 5 bits to each ward (helm/shoulders/chest/gloves/boot IIRC).

We can probably change that to be on a piece by piece basis. A lot of tome unlocks to setup for it, but doable.
Not sure if ward UI can be used, maybe. There's 8 tiers in the PvP armor sets though and just 5 tiers in the old ward system.

Btw for those that use QQueuer instead of TidyQueue, the ID for the new SC is 2400. That addon needs updates for each new SC as it has a hardcoded list of SCs instead of using the API to get them.

as a new player I'm having a hard time knowing what exactly I need to buy to be able to unlock the next step.
I had the first set in inventory until I replaced it with the lvl 17 dungeon set, now I can't buy the lvl 29 sets at all.
the fact that all the soldier tokens I had stockpiled to buy that set disappeared is painful, but at least war crests drop enough to make me not that unhappy over the patch...

You need to equip it once to get unlock.
When you try to buy a piece it will say in chat window which unlock you need if you don't already have it.

unfortunately I don't have it anymore so it's a bit of a pain, but thanks for the info on the chat error. didn't see it when I tried, probably filtered in a tab that wasn't focused.

That full warband has to actually make 4 times as many kills to theoretically have the same crest gain rates but even then it's usually 1-2 groups only, who do most of the job, while others are less efficient. To get good amount of crests in a warband, you have to be in a decent group.
This hasn't changed since the patch. This is why pug warbands are terribly inefficient for drops/kill rewards and running boxes was the best way to get influence.
