If only guilds claiming the keep can use oil, you would severly handicap defenses, unless you believe playing prowess is magcially infused in guilds by claiming a keep.
i think the suggested idea above by bombling was that if a guild is claimed, then only a member of that guild can place the oil. which makes sense to me - add an upgrade cost and charge the guild, with the benefit being that they are the ones placing it. while being in a guild doesnt magically give people ability, it can add accountability for most guilded people on the server. youll never get 100% with any solution.

i dont see unclaimed keeps having oil placement restrictions benefiting the server.

This idea is terrible. I have seen individuals single-handedly prevent and/or save entire sieges with a properly placed oil, myself included. Oil is fine the way it is, as far as I'm concerned.

Really? Cause I kinda like that idea. It'd only stop oil placements if a guild has claimed the keep. If a guild tries to use the feature to grief, then it'll be super obvious who the culprit is. Make it so the claim only stops outside oil placements if you have a member standing next to oil area if you want. Only issue I could see is on long drawn out maps when a guild claims and then goes to sleep without a resolution. But then another guild can just claim the keep to pour oil, Note; no idea if there is a limit on # of guilds that can claim a single keep, if so this should either be removed or guild claim should come with a timer.

Give guilds more of incentive to invest in the zone/keep. Give them more power to control the fight themselves, and you'll see more coordination. Atm, the ONLY reason to even ask for PUGs to NOT spawn ram/oil is because you want to A, get into an argument, or B, yell at someone.

Of all those players you have seen, how many were solo unguilded? Sure, exceptions will prove the rule and I'm sure a dozen players will love to whip out their epeens, but c'mon. Yes, there are great players that purposefully wont join a Guild. Good for them, don't try to balance the game via individuals. Let's give the Guilds some power. If it doesn't work out, then roll it back. But why would you NOT want to increase cooperative gameplay?

Edit: Personally, I'd love to go a step further. Let guilds drop Gold/resources to empower a keep or siege equipment. 1k gold for an extra 10% HP on ram and 5% damage on cannons, 500g per 1% door health increase to a max of 20% increase, 1k gold increase rank/power/spawn rate of keep NPC guards, **** like that. Give's guild's places to dump the gold we have, and a true reason to get out in the PvE and farm up more. Hell, you could even make the cost to upgrade NPC guards 100 armor pots and the buff duration lasts until the pots expire. Nightmare to code I would imagine.

Make activity and "realm support" count, and I think you'll see more. But I have been wrong in the past...

I'm not disagreeing with the idea of giving guilds more incentive, but preventing anyone from doing it if claimed is a nay for me.

Many of the people who I've seen drop an oil effectively were unguilded or weren't from any kind of coordination. Not everyone is a total baboon. That being said, yes, there are some people that are and ruin a good drop.

Maybe instead of only allowing a guild to drop it, allow guilds who claim a keep to activate a buff or effect from an npc in the keep of some kind that allows only those guild members to claim the next oil spawn over the course of 'x' minutes. Say 5 to 8 minutes (oil respawn is 3 minutes). This way guilds can take priority in oil drops, but aren't the only ones who can if they aren't around. Griefing should come with punishments, of course.

The problem is though that 99% of oil drops ARE done by baboons. See it day in and day out. These saving oils and epic drops are super rare occurrences. At least for NA prime time, idk when you primarily play.
