They had an obvious use before all stat potions and liniments got given a shared cooldown timer.
In that old system you would not waste a full time critted defense Pot, when you just wanted to quickly have a look into the RvR zones to check if there are some enemy players. There you would then only invest a small 5 min Pot. And only when you would find that the zone has enough action in it, you would take out the Potion Seller's strongest Potion.
The strange part is that the 5 min potions are not granting a bigger stat bonus, compared to the way regeneration Pots work. Those will give you higher HP regeneration ticks per second on the Pots made without the duration extender and smaller HP regeneration ticks per second on the ones with extended duration.
Going by that logic, the Potions with less duration should provide slightly higher stats.

Seems gunlinger is one of the person who like to scam new people with fleeting poptions in the ah. I mean If people dont want to scam they would sell the fleeting potions way cheaper....
Would be nice If this potions would be deleted from the game. At least for armor and stat potions.
Yeah, lol.

Yeah, lol. The last time i sold anything on AH was 2 month ago or so when i sold Liniments i had no need for way under market price to not have to send them around toons.
And yeah lol. Seems like bulk buying whole section of same type Pots and Linis in AH should be prevented by timed lockout to certain amounts per account to prevent the good old
''i buy off every single Item of Category/Effect type X, put it back in with a limited amount to manipulate request and offer status while significantly raising the sell price, to cheese out a win margin''
Want to play your good old WoW AH Wall street simulater? Then do it. But do not complain about your lacking differentiation skills when it comes to Fleeting and Lasting potions while bulk buying, with the weakest possible straw men argument of ''scamming NEW players''.
Putting potions of type X with name X into the AH instead of potion Y with name Y must be clearly a Scam.
If only there would be a better way for new players to get potions. Oh wait. They get flooded with potions fitting to their current tier and level by the added Quests rewards and reworked Killquest Npcs.
The one thing totally new players with zero AH experience do not have is *Drum roll*............... GOLD to buy overpriced potions in the Auction House.
Man i should change my lv 200 apo and culti to Talisman making. The one true thing where you can actually rip off newbies whit, when they buy +2 to 6 stat talis for their lv 5 gear for 2 Gold each, just buy new talis as soon as they level up. again and again and again...
"Hello, Potion Seller, I am going into battle and I want your strongest potions."
"My potions are too strong for you, traveler. And also i am no longer allowed to sellthem in the Auctionhouse since a bunch of wannabe brokers called them SCAM because they accidentally bought 200+ 5min ones instead of 30 min ones''

Seems like a easy fix, just block their creation possibility. They are only for scam purposes, no real value other than that.
They are most certainly needed when raising your Apothecary skill level.
If they were disabled, people would have to level it up with either heal or AP potion materials which they'd have to know in advance to Cultivate with.
If they don't, they will have to regrind those specific seeds for all lvl brackets (i.e. lvl 1 seed, lvl 25, lvl 50, etc.).
Leveling apothecary is 1 evening max, even with this small inconvenience.

Make 5 min potions BoP - if people want them so bad, they can make them themselves without subjecting the rest of us to Auction House Spam.
As a software dev myself (not for this project, just in general) this is by far the best and easiest to implement solution for the problem. Everything else that was suggested here, can be a pain in the ass depending on the complexity of the underlying systems (like not really having access to the client-code (afaik)).
This however is likely just a little edit in the db. Hope the idea gets forwarded to the corresponding team!

Heal, regen and abso potions should be removed from the game in general. They make many fights just about potions cooldowns. This has nothing to do with skill or fun.

It's not the most important issue, but... 5-minute level 36+ potions are being used for the most part as a way to scam people out of gold on the AH. Perhaps something could be done to the crafting scaling to avoid this grief. 30 min minimum or something idk. I don't think 5 min post should even exist in the game tbh. It's an archaic design.
Could you let me know how you feel most people are falling for this?
We saw the same issue last year and also agreed we didn't want people to get tricked by it, so we changed the name of the 5 minute items so that searching "Lasting Stanchion" etc would only show the longer versions. Is there another common filter or search people are using that's still making the 5 minute versions show up in the results?

Timers for Gobswort should be 20/40/60 based on level. There is no need at this iteration of the server for low duration potions.
Cultivating/apothecary should be encouraged as the, "lesser," of the two crafting professions. It should be easy to pick up and profit from, with talisman making the more involved or, "advanced," crafting profession.

Nobody is falling for anything here.
Potions are clearly listed as either fleeting or lasting.
The only players that kinda accidentally buy a stack of fleeting stanchion unguent armor pots are those that sort ''lasting Stanchion Unguent'' sorted by lowest price top to bottom and rapit click potion, buy, potion, buy. Then when all lasting ones are bought, the fleeting ones will be listed next in line. And they are so focused on buying up all the lasting ones, that they react to late and buy 1 or 2 stacks of fleeting ones.
Those are the real Scammers, that empty the AH of potions to re sell them there for higher prices.
And the rest in this Post just tries to set up ''new players'' and ''people'' as their strawmen argument in hopes that the 5 min Potions get taken out of game in the hope that they no longer need to buy or grow extenders to make ''lasting'' potions.

In my case I've mistakenly bought them once since the name change by searching unguent 36+lvl and scrolling down to look for the 60 mins version and buying one just above where I moused over (and it was 5 min version). Granted at the time I might not have been keen to the new name change and I'm sure that it has cut down the mistakes people have made. It hasn't stopped the people posting them for the same price. It still would be easy for someone new to just click buy 40 stack that's the same price as the normal ones if they search the potion type unguent.
Also, as Gobtar mentioned it would be nice just to not have the extra spam on the AH if 5mins pots were bound.
