Cannon Smash M3 is for SCs and small scale. Explosive shots is for warband destruction. It procs on every direct damage done from your position. As well as from your Napalm.

I suggest looking for some Phalanx/Zerg videos with their Engi where he pretty much destroys a warband on his own. With Napalm on their position and pumping Shotgun blasts into them to Proc it every second.

It is still a moral attack, so you hit a maximum of 9 targets. But it is like a 10 second raze that can't be disrupted or interrupted.

As I said, it is a total funnel killer.

Also with your shotgun and Flame Turret AoE cap increase: Only one destro of the 24 you hit with your shotgun doesn't have to dodge, and the moral procs on 9 others that can't dodge moral damage.

I think you may be misundertanding me when I said it was a Path of the Grenadier lvl 13 skill.

I meamt when I look at it in the abilities vendor interface, it says you need to be lvl 13 to get it.
So, it comes to you way earlier than Napalm.
