I don't think this is possible. As i mentioned before, all projects on kickstarter have to be creative. :)
But seriously, if someone want's to buy GW, he should wait some time...

Firstly im sure Kharnamatic done this with good intentions and hope he didn't mention this project directly in the emails but all the hate aimed towards him is unnecessary.
If the situation with this server became bad and the devs gave up which i hope wont happen and im sure it wont then mayb try reaching out tho i doubt it will make any difference.
if anything get friendly with some of the old warhammer devs and hope they have something that may help, infact if anyone is on speaking terms with any of the old war devs which i doubt but it may be worth asking them not about getting some of the code but if they can offer some knowledge, advice or perhaps remember a certain something that may help the devs here.

The reason Kharnamatic sent an email was selfish, which is why he's being attacked. From the tone of his first post it's evident that what he actually wants is Warhammer back as soon as possible so that he can play it, which is no bad thing in itself, but when he decided to send a mail out to one of the original developers against the recommendations of the community, he put his own need and opinion above that of the community.

That said, I do agree that people should lay off him. There is at least one enemy of the project in the forum community and he represents a bigger annoyance than an email sent off to a former developer, who thankfully is not a part of EA or GW.

I think neither EA nor GW want any bad publicity at this time.

Games Workshop did make some major failures, that led to the financial situation they are in today (see above).
Strangely enough, they have virtually an absolute monopoly on the tabletop market...

Electronic Arts is voted the worst company for the second time: Consumerist Vote.
The interest in this company also seems to be very degressive: Google Trends EA.

Nowadays it's hard to tell for a companys public relation guys, what tiny decission leads to a shitstorm, wich will bring even more bad PR.

We're pretty small-scaled; I doubt our shutdown would get much recognition in any media outlet which is able to bestow shame upon EA/GW.

Yes, but i think the risk is hard to evaluate for any PR guy. Even more if it is a fan project, that doesn't hurt those companys in any way. Some years ago those companys could afford to send blindly a cease and desist order to everyone.
But thats just my guesswork ;)

p.s.: i'm all for banning every ip-adress that hasn't a dwarven origin.

Litigation sent in the knowledge that the receiving party can't marshall funds to fight it is still a popular strategy, is it not?
