Kinda killed my entire mood to play tbh, kind of silly you guys didn't just wipe the people that were most obviously exploiting or just had an insane amount of Gold.
Aww.

Kinda kills my entire mood to play when I repeatedly get messaged with bug reports when I'm trying to play the game, but I don't come to cry about it.

What is an insane amount?
If 1000 gold is insane (imo hardly possible to farm that in T1), then maybe 80-90% of the accounts had to be wiped.
The exploited gold was widely spread on the whole server population due to trade (hyper-inflation).
Plus the people who got insane gold weren't necessarily dupers but farmers - if +12 rings sold for 500g at a point, then it is not really hard to have more than 3k gold let's say. The price just got super inflated so even new players could have more than a thousand with simply 3 lucky drops.
Yes, that was my point. :)

One group of people might exploit several thousand gold. That doesn't mean it stays in their pocket however.

Problem
Spoiler:
They use the AH and trades in /advice to get the gear they want on dozens of characters. They're also spreading it around to their friends and guildmates so they can buy gear from the AH as well. That's a lot of free, unearned, undeserved gold getting kicked out to a large base of people very quickly. Anyone who is not involved in these specific transactions are at a significant disadvantage.

Players selling on the AH will now see items selling for 5g, 10g, or 20g a pop (If not drastically higher since exploited gold is pointless and trivial to 'make'). Naturally the market is going to inflate to accommodate whoever has all of this money. Whatever people are willing to buy for, someone will have an auction to sell it at. Savvy AH users will make their own pretty pile of gold, which originally came from the pockets of someone who exploited to get it. These metrics aren't hard to see happening even without tools and logs from the back end.
Fix
Spoiler:
The wipe was needed, as punishing a small amount of players would still leave behind the repercussions of their actions. Gradual deflation would happen over time as the thousands of gold were spread among the playerbase, but it adversely affects new players that get into the game too late. When relatively common items are selling for a couple gold a piece, you have a real problem buying gear unless you're already loaded up on exploited gold. They don't have several gold without significant time farming at 15-20 brass per kill, unless they get a lucky drop they can sell to get in on the action. This is boring, time consuming, and will ultimately kill the will of anyone trying to get started in the game.

What does a wipe do to the economy? Well, if you're significantly ahead of the game and you're sitting on a pile of cash, it wipes out your reserves. Keeping anything equipped means you're still perfectly fine to go out and enjoy the game. Unless, you only derive pleasure from having tons of cash on you, which explains the will and desire to exploit. To those I have no sympathy.

For a large portion of the playerbase it's less drastic, these players worked much harder for their gold, and it hurts. They will be starting at a clean slate, and also have a fair amount of decent gear equipped to be competitive in combat. As new gear enters the AH, prices should be lower or it'll rot for a couple days. The market will adjust quickly, and good gear will be available significantly cheaper (or it isn't going to sell quickly).
This is an alpha server, we have new players joining all the time. They shouldn't be subject to wildly inflated prices on the AH because exploited gold hasn't been taken care of. If anything it should be a sign that devs care about these exploits being in place where WAR tended to turn a blind eye. The more of these that are found and eliminated, the better it is for all of us.

I'm sorry, I will never do it again :(
I felt really **** when you logged off immediately to start fixing the keep doors, again.

Don't apologise for dedication in finding bugs! All the reports help. I just felt the pressure a bit more recently :)

Wipe is fine. Low drop rates are not.

C'mon, korean approach is so archaic.

All the PvE drops were nerfed, sure, but every player you kill now has a chance to drop all kinds of things. Significant buff. This is, by community demand and developer focus, an RvR game. The vast majority of interesting action should come in lakes and scenarios.

I consider it an overall buff to the drop rate.

Wishful thinking is cool, but drop rate in pvp is extremely low as well.
