Movie is finally being made. Pretty excited bout the news, now to go back and read all the books again.

i just reread the gunslinger last week and am pumped for this. Can't wait

I can't wait for them to inevitably mess with the plot in an attempt to condense the whole series into trilogy material, and then for it to not even get picked up for a sequel.

But I would love to be wrong.

my biggest fear. I love the series but it can not be done in 3 movies. It needs at least 4. 1-2,3-4,5-6, and a movie for the last book on its own.

Roland Deschain was my hero since teenage.

This politically correct wave is getting out of hand, and you don't make a character with "steel grey eyes" black. You just don't.

Did you forget that there are other worlds than these, like you forgot the face of your father?

Casting Idris Elba as Roland Deschain was done because Idris Elba is an amazing actor with a solid filmography to draw from, not because of "political correctness." King was involved in the casting process, and had this to say on the matter:

So if the author of the story doesn't care, it's not an issue. It's his **** book. The story doesn't even hinge on Roland's skin color outside of a small bit of The Drawing of the Three - but that's outside the scope of this movie, and wasn't critical to begin with. On top of that the fact that they're casting for a side character introduced in the last book means that there's already going to be changes to the details of the story. That's a more lamentable issue than "Roland wasn't black."

But I mean, if the color of an actor's skin is more important to you than the respect, skill and depth they can bring to the role they're playing, then I wouldn't really want to sit in the theater with you either.

Well said. Idris will make a fantastic Roland, his range is absolutely why he was cast. Roland goes through so many subtle changes throughout the entire series and someone of his skill level is absolutely necessary for the roll to have it's desired effect.
