Oceanic Players - Do you use a proxy game service to play?

Dear all,

Firstly, it is great to be back to this wonderful game. My all time favourite. I used to play on Live and connecting to US servers is not a problem for me, however, connecting to the servers now, I seem to be facing very high latency most of the time.

Question is, any Oceanic players here using a proxy game server to connect to the game?

I am currently using https://pingzapper.com/ , but I was unable to login. And someone did say that for some reason, proxy servers aren't allowed in this game. Any comments ?

Well my understanding is that the servers are based in France which explains your latency problem. Unfortunately I know nothing about proxies being used in this way so can't really answer the next part of your question

I do not play with a proxy.
I play only ranged and healing classes to compensate for latency.

This isn't true, we don't prevent people from using proxies to access the game.

But, the real question is: would a proxy really result in a better ping? since you are connecting from thousands of km away.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

It would not really help, at best it would be equivalent to what you get now, but more likely it would lead to an increase in ping as the number of hops increase.

This is not always 100% true. Sometimes rerouting your connection can improve the ping, because the way you usually connect is stupidly arranged, or the standard route ends up being longer. I connect from Japan and sometimes by rerouting the connection I can drastically improve my ping. It is by no means a good ping, but it can be the difference between 700 and 400.

No service out there will actually drop me below 250, but some of the services can make my ping less volatile.

True, Karast, didn't consider sub-optimal routing. Though connecting to a proxy gives you 2 distances where you could have poor routing instead of just one. So I guess on average you'd end up with a slightly more stable ping that might be close to the optimal ping (assuming the proxy is situated close to the optimal route between you and the server).

Yeah, I remember I had this problem a while ago when playing LoL. A proxy would help me for this time. The LoL Support later apologized for they f*cked up my connection.
But what I wanted to say is, even if a proxy helps you a bit, your ping will never be as good as on live.
