Why is the server population so low at the moment?

I'm sure that we're all aware that the last few days have been painful for the RoR community (if you didn't know the server has been down due to DDOS) I'm kind of worried that its hurt the community too much and people are having the thoughts of "I can't be bothered anymore" Which obviously should not be the case!!! To put it bluntly i'm just a bit shocked that the server is almost empty today.... If anything i'd expect it to be booming!

Server population is low today because the server is currently falling over every 5-20 minutes.
Like right now.
