I want to try this game out and do some pvp but i want to get myself on an equal footing to other players, is there a guide on what exactly I should be doing to do this?

I am a high level PvP player from other games but it would be nice to try this out.

Best way to level up/gear. What good pvp classes are. etc.

Also can I install via cd and update to the new patch or should I just download everything?

You have to download everything, the CD's do not work anymore.

As for leveling up, I would do open world RvR and scenarios til you get to the 2nd tier. In the 2nd/3rd tier, they just tripled the amount of XP you get from quests, so I would do those and scenarios. Once you get to tier 4, again focus on open world RvR and scenarios so you will be able to gain reknown points, since you will be lacking from the tier 2/3 PvE.

When it comes to classes being good at PvP, they are all just as good as you make them. Picking a class just depends on the type of player you are.

Once you get to the first warcamp join an open warband and do some RvR (open world pvp) you fight for objectives and you kill players, that way you grind xp and buy stuff from vendor at certain lvls and use medallions to buy stronger gear, from lvl 1-12 then you go to tier 2 and do the same from 12-22 etc do pvp quests while ur at it

There hardly is a general guide for 'PvP-classes', since any class is suitable for PvP.
Depends on your playstyle. And even if classes are called 'mirrors' of other classes, they are no duplicates. So the three tanks of destro are different than the three tanks on order.

So you'd have to get an idea what you want to play and research that style of class and the classes in general.

And even as veteran in PvP games: Especially tanks are played different here, than in other PvP-games. They aren't 'bubble your party', or 'Give reductions to everyone, while around' style of chars. They are CCer, attack-opener, distraction and party support (unless going dps, then the supporting is vice versa).

Thanks guys, I just want to be able to jump in and pvp as quick as possible. I bought this game when it came out but I've since forgotten everything about it (other then my feelings because I was sad it went away)

Almost have it fully downloaded now :D

You get a lot of character slots. More than on live. Try a bunch of different classes in T1, get to R10, then make another one. That should keep you busy for a couple months. T1 PvP is lots of fun.

When you fall in love with a character, grind your way up to T4. Don't worry, you'll know when it hits you.
