[Feedback] XREALMING

So first of all, this is not a whine post.
Is there a reason for still allowing xrealming? Is it for testing purposes?
The fact of the matter is, majority of the playing population will choose the path of least resistance to their precious shinies. And it just so happens the path of least resistance is Zerging. As soon as all objectives are of the same colour, the population shifts to to another colour and that aao starts creeping up. The when the zones have flipped, the switch simply happens again. That population shift is clear and obvious as day.
It's fine implementing and trying out different systems to balance out fights where one side is outnumbered and give them incentive to keep fighting. But those efforts are somewhat mitigated by the ease of just switching to the winning side.
I am just curious - why is xrealming still allowed? Is it emu constraints?

Did you consider using the forum's Search function?

Devs are well aware of the Xrealming issues but since there aint no monthly fee or subscriptions theres nothing they can really do about it. Also the xrealming issues will solve itself once its no longer profiteble to just log over and you actually need to chose a main and grind him out to be competative with gear due to the rr requirements for higher tier gear aswell as the grind to get the gear itself.

I not only considered it, but used it too. And what I found was copious amounts of finger-pointing and whining... which is why I started off by saying 'this is not a whine post'. What I didn't find was a satisfactory answer, now whether i'm inept at using the forum search function or the answer was hidden in the 10+ pages of posts (despite skimming through them anyway), or both, I felt warranted in making a new post on the subject and maybe having a friendly discussion about it with the community.

Thx roadkillrobin. I'm not complaining and not too fussed about the xrealming 'problem'. This is just out of sheer curiosity - is xrealming something that, for whatever reason, is consciously being allowed? Or is it just not possible to do anything about it due to emu restraints?

Lots has been done recently to change the scope of rewards earned so that you earn rewards more fairly (including if you log off). This all addresses some of the root causes of x-realming.
Oh and I've seen lots of times players coming to Order when order is badly outnumbered, so it's not only used for exploitation.

Think for a moment and come up with some idea's on how one could stop Xrealming. Remember, that you can create multiple accounts, so locking an acct to one side wouldn't work. IP locking wouldn't work due to multiple people wanting to play from the same residence, and quite simply how easy it is to change your IP.
You are trying to battle Human Nature. GL with that.
And remember, the shifts that you call clear as day? Are NOT. Check the main-page to see the player count in each Tier/overall. If you are fighting 24v24, and after a few hours half of your WB leaves, but look! The other side now has 2 full WBs! That is NOT proof of Xrealming. All that shows is that X people stopped competing in ORvvR for whatever reason, and that Y people joined ORvR on the other side. Could be new people, could be taking a break/returning, could be a fresh timezone is logging in, could be Xrealming, could be a whole hell of a lot of things.
I have seen a couple garunteed instances of Xrealming. Where I specifically know a player/group on one side fighting, then a few minutes later I see their toons on the other realm. Now, I have seen brutal Xrealming, where 1 side took all the BOs, and instigated a keep attack. When the PUGs showed to attack, then switched to their toons on other realm and farmed a keep defense. THAT is Xrealming. But even that isn't actually BAD per say, since when they switched, they had AAO.
The Xrealming "issue" is not as clear cut as it appears.

Exactly... One of the issues with fighting when losing is the tendency for players to just leave because "it's a lost cause" mentality. Large amounts of players when leaving also go to other Tiers to play.

I'm curious why a simple log out timer hasn't been introduced?
Even if it's possible to bypass it by simply registering another account, you would still have spend a quite significant amount of time leveling new toons on both sides for a second account. Making it only a diehard few with that level of leech dedication, I'd say.

IF you havent noticed, they are trying to implement a system where you stll can lock to other faction but you will not profit from it...actually you will be better off keeping loyal to one side for a longer time. Looks to me like the smarter solution than implementing an easy circumvented lock timer which actually makes the "leech dedicated" people looking like outsmarting the rules.

but that's exactly what happens
people level up on both sides
making an account realm bound would only force xrealmers to make 2 accounts
the real solution is making so rewards come scale with the amount of fighting and that the fight never really ends
This is what the devs are going for, I believe, they all pointed in that direction. Even the recent patches are helping in that regard.
