Mutated Energy - why so usless

Hello all,
Last time, i have try Mutated Energy ( not Mutated Agressor !) and have some conclusions about that.
First - its completly useless skill, 100ft range with 3s knockdown, is simply to far to get a magic dps even when he lay.
So- maybe its good idea to make range of that skill closer ( 35-65 ft) ?. That should prevent to use accidentally MU on magician away away from mara?
I just hate when some characters have a crap abilities, its blocking a players creativity in choosing styles of playing.
P.S. Argument that "b-but every mara should have armour debuff, so savagery " is not acceptable for me.
