Oceanic latency

Hi everybody,
So I just stumbled upon this private server today. I played a small amount of AoR back in the day and I loved it. Fast forward quite a few years.
I'm currently in the process of downloading the client and such but I'm curious what the latency is going to be like? A friend mentioned that the ping is pretty high if you're outside of the UK so I'm a little worried being down in Australia (Perth, Western Australia).
If there's any other Aussies around here who could help or just if you know what kind of ping I should be expecting, that would be a great help.
Thanks for your time,
Fenrir

It can certainly be done, if your used to playing PvP games on oceanic servers you will need to take a step back and accept the horrible latency, because in certain situations, like playing mele, its tough.
I play a Knight, and I will tell you, and likely players in my guild, that it is a pain, because of the latency it can be hard to get punts off in the intended direction and there are instances where you may feel like your abilities should fire but they won't. However, my brother plays a WL and does extremely well, for being in Australia, but then, he is a highly skilled player.
Range and healers it's not so bad, but getting the instant situational abilities off such as detaunt, knock backs, roots and self punts can be a pain in the ass.

Welcome mate, try using a VPN connection. I play from Sweden and get a ping of about 35, but when using a VPN to France i get aprox 4 ms ping. Spooke to a fella from China yesterday who changed his VPN location to France (From Canada IIRC) and Went from 350 ms to 50-ish, again IIRC. Give it a go, mate!

Yeah you might try to use VPN (there are even dedicated ones for lessening latency).
While it won't deny laws of physics it can help you shave some latency.

Looks like i might be making the plunge into VPN as well, I too would be happy to hear of any free VPN services that come recommended that I could further investigate. It did seem though that the best ones were paid for when I did a quick search and I don't think I can justify paying a monthly fee just for this game.

I'd recommend cyberghost, its free ( you can pay too ) and easy to use. Cons to use are the waiting sometimes to plug in the vpn ( 1 or 2min max ) and it disconnect every 2 hours i think

Hey would you mind asking this guy for the name of the vpn he uses. I'm in China and can only play a few times during the week because of the poor internet connection in china.
