Crash after launcher: Windows 8.1

Hi there, thanks in advance for any help.

I’ve read lots of threads and haven’t come across this issue but apologies if there is any repetition.
After I type in my credentials on the launcher and click connect, the game crashes, although it sometimes flashes the initial launch screen (the roundish war symbol, not the splash screen). It looks like exactly the problem of restricting permission on folders but changing those does not help. The further complication is that even though I change the folder permissions it changes them back to read only (is this then a windows 8.1 problem?). Other threads with this problem and windows 8.1 have solved it but none of their solutions works.

There is no error message. I’ve tried both the client and torrent downloads, and I’ve replaced my launcher with the new unpacked one. And I've run as administrator.

The only similar problem I can find is this one, which went unsolved - viewtopic.php?f=4&t=16961 Like in this thread I have tried removing read only on the whole folder and that didn't work (though as noted already it seems to be returned to read only)

Any ideas appreciated! Thanks

lets try this :
- Shutdown your torrent or move your game folder, then retry to uncheck read only
- Update/install latest Microsoft.Net framework (https://www.microsoft.com/fr-fr/downloa ... x?id=30653)

And give a try.

Unfortunately neither of those suggestions worked. I'd tried moving the folder and tried again, but I uncheck it applies it and read only seems unchecked, however when I close and reopen the folder it is checked read only again. (Btw. I have tried advice like this about folder permissions in 8.1 but it don't work http://superuser.com/questions/866120/c ... indows-8-1)

Net 4.5 was already installed.

Download and install in your war folder, might work

Also, what directx version you got?
Read in forum that some pc cleaners might block the access to game, check it out and see.

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately it didn't work. Installed the new launcher etc. but nothing changed.

It is Directx 11 6.03.9600.17415

There aren't any PC cleaners at work.

Check the windows logs: press Ctrl+X; look for Event Viewer (should be near the top). Client log should be under "Windows Logs" > Application.

Here are some general solutions:

- make sure the game is not on your primary partition (Win8.1 and beyond are a bit iffy about that sometimes);
- make sure you run the client as administrator.

Hope this helps. I'm running the game on 8.1 as well so i'm sure it's not the OS.

Thanks for the help. Running as administrator unfortunately doesn't help. I'm not sure about partitions as there seems to only be the recovery and main partition.

In event logs I got the following errors (each error I've marked with * ), Anyone any idea what they mean?
Edited to add: I googled the faults and as they seemed to mention counters I went and rebuilt performance counters (both commands one after the other) but still no luck, didn't work.

*The Open Procedure for service "BITS" in DLL "C:\Windows\System32\bitsperf.dll" failed. Performance data for this service will not be available. The first four bytes (DWORD) of the Data section contains the error code.
*The Open Procedure for service "ESENT" in DLL "C:\WINDOWS\system32\esentprf.dll" failed. Performance data for this service will not be available. The first four bytes (DWORD) of the Data section contains the error code.
*The Open Procedure for service "Lsa" in DLL "C:\Windows\System32\Secur32.dll" failed. Performance data for this service will not be available. The first four bytes (DWORD) of the Data section contains the error code.
*The Open Procedure for service "MSDTC" in DLL "C:\WINDOWS\system32\msdtcuiu.DLL" failed. Performance data for this service will not be available. The first four bytes (DWORD) of the Data section contains the error code.
*Unable to open the Server service performance object. The first four bytes (DWORD) of the Data section contains the status code.
*The Open Procedure for service "WmiApRpl" in DLL "C:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem\wmiaprpl.dll" failed. Performance data for this service will not be available. The first four bytes (DWORD) of the Data section contains the error code.

Before following the below instructions i recommend doing a Windows update in. It might fix the issue.

If it doesn't, then look at this. It is a server solution, however the error is the same so it might work.

1. Search for regedit.
2. Press CTRL+F and search for each .dll in particular.
3. Follow the solution instructions for each dll.

It's not a guarantee that it will work and I strongly recommend making a WIndows Restore Point before doing it (see link below) as it may have an undesired impact on your machine.

Dll issues are tricky and, if it's not too much of a hassle, I'd recommend doing a clean OS install. If your OS isn't exactly "legit" i'd look for a different source, as well (i don't condone piracy or any form of it).

Thanks again. I updated and I tried the dll solution. Neither worked. The event viewer is still giving off the same error message even though the permissions have changed. Not sure we can find the key or installation disk to reinstall OS.

I'm really sorry to hear that. The last simple solution that I would recommend is downloading the game again, though it's a long shot.

If that doesn't work I strongly advise to just search each error in particular on google (one interesting solution is here) or reinstall Windows. If you find your cd key and/or have an account with it, you can download windows from microsoft... somewhere (their websites are absolute shite).

I hope you manage to find a solution, i really do.
