Gameplay Proposal
Introduction of daily Quests.
The Issue:
Players change their game preferences on a weekly base. Meaning if they feel not good in one game, or another game arrives they switch and then play that other game full time. The Idea to work against this, is to create an incentive to logon into RoR at least once a day.
Longer Description:
Recently I found me playing again a lot of Vermintide. Endless RvR Zone locks in RoR and somehow the same people getting the gold bags got me a little off the table. This is no critique though. When it was introduced I played a lot in it. But you need to invest time into it. When we run our Dwarf Warbands each Thursday we have two hours playtime. And most of the times it is a longer Keep defense or Keep Take. But we are never both at the beginning of a Zone Lock or the End in one Session.
So what I know realized in Vermintide is the rather new Contract System.
Meaning you can choose one of a main quest and then need to get a 4-12 Keys from other Quests to solve the main quest and get your very high Gear that can only be achieved by playing on insane difficulty and rolling 7 times a 5+.
And I really like this system, because if you logon only for 30 or 45 minutes you can grab one or two missions and get one of the quests done. And the next day you get a new set of daily quests.
Star Trek Online had these too with some daily quests which could be solved in 20 minutes or faster. So daily Quests are no invention of me or anything.
Overall what these quests do, is that they bring you to get online at least every 24 hours. And then do a quest with a high turnover compared to all the other quests which are in the game. And they give an immediate boon or completion bonus.
The idea is not that players play these quests to get the latest gear, but to feel that they log on, do something and progress. As stated several times we are all older with wives and children and don’t have time to play 6 hours a day. But my conclusion is not to change the overall game and RvR to suit that, but give us daddies an opportunity to achieve something.
So my proposal is the introduction of some daily quests which can only be retaken after 24 hours have passed, or the server clock has moved after 8pm NA time zone. So a fast American can do two daylies every second day.
What could these daily quest be?
Examples:
Kill 15 Players of the enemy Realm.
In any Zone, in RvR or SCs.
XP and gold on the same lvl as the RvR Zone quests with killing 25 of each race
Plus each one of the new Emblems and Medallions.
So these Quests are like the Zone Kill Quests, albeit with a very reduced number players you need to get to kill. Meaning you could achieve it in one go in 30 minutes playtime. Also this is one Quest where you get both Currencies.
Of course general policy is that you get SC gear if you only play SCs. That is all nice and good. But for a daily incentive it would really nice to get these SC Medals. With only 1 per day you would still need only three Years to get your high end SC weapon if you only do it by the Daily Quests.
Couldn’t I just play an SC, loose, get 2 Emblems?
Well yes. Simply playing and SC and loosing 200:500 would give you 2 SC Currencies. (always mixing Emblems and Medalls). But I rather find it odd to logon each day to loose an SC. Logging on to get my daily Quest feels better, even if you get less from it.
Could it be abused?
In my opinion no. You could play for an Evening all your alts and complete the daily Quest for them. So you can max it out. Well then for each alt it is a maxed out playtime/getstuff solution. But still these Quests wouldn’t get you up to 40/40 really sustainable faster.
People would talk to each other, so opposing Realms can meet in a not active Zone and Kill each other. Well that is atm also possible and forbidden. So maybe it is more tempting to do it really fast to get the 15 Kills. But it is forbidden and done atm, so I see there no problem.
