Back in the day in the old WAR forums there was kind of a split on the opinion of the Bo
Some thought him underwhelming compared to the chosen and Bg and others thought of him as ok

Either way many were waiting for the buffs for both him and sm that were in the beta client

I was never around for the end so I don't know if the preceptions of class ever changed

So I am just curious as to what the community's opinion of him is

Not just in t1 but higher levels as well

Those were some awesome buffs bordering on OPness. It sucks they were never implemented.

Not just in t1 but higher levels as well

They can deal a large amount of damage and have some interesting abilities (Right in da jibblies and Tuffer 'n nails are good to annoy order in RvR )
If you're trying to get away from order though then, heh, gg. They are tall. Very tall.
Basically, a fun class.

They are pretty good in the lower tiers. In later tiers when other tanks get proper kbs and cc on demand and the ap free skills of the mechanic no longer matter. They fall behind. SM worse as he has to compete with the kotbs the king of tanks.

Does that make chosen king of destro tanks?

Not as much. Auras are the best tank mechanic but Chosen dont benefit a groups as much as a kotbs. kotbs have better tactics and can shutdown one of the other sides healer classes completely.

Does anyone remember the changes being proposed by Keaven et al, that got as far as the PTS that were meant to bring the BO/SM more in line with a bodyguard role (leap to friendly guardee iirc?)

I didn't realize how strong kotbs are I figured ib and Bg were the best thanks to the strong oath friend buffs

kotbs were basically unkillable in higher tiers

BOs are fun. lots of fun. quinitisential fighter class. lots of survivability and dmg. biggest and loudest class in game. gets a lot of attention from enemy and squishies can hide behind him. amazing base stats, especially in lower tiers

fell behind in higher tiers though. just not as much utility and as other classes survivability went up, BO dmg just didn't keep up. great solo roamers if dps specced but most groups preferred a chosen or BG

they're just fun, that's all there is to it. you're the biggest, meanest, toughest thing on the battlefield and can take on pretty much anything, but you're not the meta. play a black orc if you just want to beat the zog out of things with little regard to anything else. most players will appreciate a big loud tough thing that they can hide behind but elite roaming groups will prefer a chosen

all in all, best casual fighter class

Indeed. Speaking from experience, they have great abilities. As an example, on live I got this response from a bright wizard that I killed with Tuffer 'n nails on:
Black ork you're a hacker!
Hacker!
1 hour later...
Hacker!

Gotta love some responses in MMOs
