What are the RvR events like?

Is one side more favored to win? Does it lag to hell? How powerful should you be before partaking in one?
They're fun. I feel that they've been relatively well balanced, as there is a lot of backwards and forwards between both Warcamps.
I don't experience much lag/latency, if not, any throughout the event. The last event I had no issues, and the server didn't crash.
I do see some lower level players running around during it, but most people are rank 10. I would just say power level to 10, so you have all the available abilities. If you've got time, farm gear and sell the decent gear you find (which you can't use), then buy some from AH. It's a good starting point.
