Defense angles

I was told (by an anonymous whistleblower :D ) that the defense angles atm work like this:

But i think it should work like this:

Otherwise skills that work only in the targets back or sides wouldn't make sense: http://waronlinebuilder.org/#career=wl; ... :;0:0:0:0:

If i remember correctly, skills that only work in the targets back were not usable, when you run alongside the enemy (e.g. Flanking Shot).
Imo at the moment it would be too easy to use positionals and avoid the defense angles (block, parry, dodge) of the enemy.

Please discuss, confirm and deny.

I im pretty sure that strafing let you most of the time also block/parry attacks coming from 'behind' when you went in a WIDE radius while kiting (or running from) your enemy. And following this thought the frontal angle would be somewhat around 160° ..

Another thing to strenghten this statement was the ability to also cast spells while actually having targets behind you. I used to do this sh*t with my BW on live and pretty much could cast on targets i saw at the edge of the screen.

Thats how it looked about on live (obviously i cant recreate the original one).
Another thing to mention here is that the stuff about the angles was not bount to your running direction but the direction your camera was faced while moving with a held-down right mouse button (i hope its understandable what i mean). thats how these moves above were actually being possible.

Positions and cast angles are separate.

While positions are as Luth pointed out front back and sides.

Cast angle is 180 degrees frontal.

This is something that confused me as I could parry to the side. Seems position is lacking sides.

I just realised, that it was unclear that i just meant defending and/or being attacked. :)
I adjusted the OP.

As telen wrote, i remember rDPS could attack in that angle:
Spoiler:

But i'm not sure about mDPS, did they had 180° too?

Cast angle at the moment is 360° here on RoR :D
Still, like i said it SHOULD be nothing unordinary to be able to parry/block at your sides IF you strafe - allthough i dont know how its working here atm.

Like your lovely paint diagram shows you couldn't parry directly from the side.

Yeah what i wanted to show with my epic paint skillz is like block, parry, as well as the the positioning skills like Torment or Burn Away Lies should be calculated/targetable at and i thought it was the same for casting. Didnt think it was a 180° casting radius though.

Yeah casting used a separate angle system to allow kiting. Its the same in swtor. There they changed it to 270 frontal though. I think wars angle system had it about right. 270 is too much.

I remember a very detailed kiting guide from a bw, it showed also a 180° angle on casts. I searched it, but can't find it anymore :|
