Defense ini/futile strikes.

Just a basic question, try to keep it simple as possible

.
I want to become more defensive in general. Up to this point Ive been putting 15rr points into futile strikes (total 8% to be crit)
I am wondering if this is the quickest easiest way to prevent crit damage?
Also, if I get my chance to be crit down to 0% and its in conjunction with futile strikes, but my overall ini stat is low does that matter? Is having higher ini better than futile strikes?
Also, if I get my chance to be crit at 0% and I spend additional points in futile strikes(or ini), bringing it to total 15% reduce crit chance, but Im already at 0%, is this considered overkill?

So, I'd say it's first better to have high ini then invest in futile strikes because of ini debuffs but that threshold changes for different classes. I would just respec your renown and test see what you'd rather have. For my SW, I could get full 120 ini and still have like 8% chance to be crit at around 300, or I could get FS 3 and have 2% chance. Numbers might be slightly off since this was a while ago

to be crit chance can go minus value.
by futile strike and skills.
don't know formular.
-15% (your reduced chance to be crit) vs 30% (enemy's crit) = 15% your chance to be crit by that enemy.
full FS and you see much less crit.
It feels like init helps to go minus.
need test though.

I have a chart, but I can't link it here using my phone. The below is using the new initiative formula from a couple patches ago.
200 initiative is 14.89% chance to be crit. 80 debuff puts you to 22.58%. 120 debuff is 30.43%
250 initiative is 12.28%. 80db / 17.07%. 120db / 21.21%.
Less than 200 initiative becomes super high % increases so much so that it is basically suicide.

isn't it linear values?
80 init - 30.43 %
120 init - 22.58 %
130 init - 21.21 %
170 init - 17.07 %
200 init - 14.89 %
250 init - 12.28 %
based on your numbers, init has diminishing returns?
my toons have different % with same init of your number.
176 init - 19.9 %
180 init - 19.4 %
184 init - 19.0 %
198 init - 17.7 %
200 init - 17.5 %
204 init - 17.2 %
213 init - 16.4 %
214 init - 16.4 %
224 init - 15.6 %
235 init - 14.9 %
240 init - 14.6 %
251 init - 13.9 %
268 init - 13.1 %
someone plz analyze the numbers?
i think FS first then init.

^^^ check your own math. Get Ini up first. Standard ini debuff of 80, from 250 to 170, is a 5% increase. From 200 ini to 120 is almost 8% increase. So you need a solid ini to start with, unless you don’t mind being crit all the time...
300 ini puts you in a decent place. 350 is “best”. But as said earlier, you can go into negatives now. So, the higher the better. Try to asses your stats from a debuffed perspective.
Also, imo, ensuring all your defenses are decent is more important than focusing on 1 in particular. But different strokes for different folks.

If you have 170 ini as destro and then get double ini debuffed, you will have 100% chance to be crit if Im not mistaken. 0 ini=100% chance to be crit.
Only 200 ini isnt much better. If you have 20% chance to be crit, you then have to take into account your enemys chance to crit, and then any crit buffs they may have (Wasteland Ruse, Ancestors Fury, Crimson Death, Encouraged Aim, etc).
Similar to the people who advocate tanks only should have 3.3k armor, saying you need only 170-200 ini is terrible advice. Unless you have an entire grp dedicated to keeping you up, its suicide. Or at the very least, a large and unnecessary burden on your healers.
edit: well the post i was replying to disappeared? It was that Kotbs who thinks you only need 3.3k armor as a 2h tank though, saying you only need 170-200 ini so yeah.

I think diminishing returns start at 200~210 init.
most of my 40+ toons are sitting around 200~250 init naturally.
I know init debuffs are serious problem for destro. but 350 seems too much invest even for tanks.
you have to sacrifice from other stats.
I would suggest aim init values right above the double debuffs to prevent auto crit, then invest FS.
It seems 10 init = 1% reduced crit
before d-returns.
so Rare Fortune's first set bonus are about 5% crit reduction when debuffed.
tough choices between conq or RF.
