Server-sided development - how to start as a newbie?

Hi guys,

currently I'm working as a frontend-web-developer, doing mainly JEE-portlet/servlet coding, jsp-templating, JavaScript, HTML, CSS and so on. I only have some very basic knowledge of c# and some knowledge of databases, so I'm probably the typical web-developer who never learned any real programming languages :D

However, I'm always trying to expand my programming skills and the whole reverse-engineering and server-sided coding sounds very interesting. Also, I LOVE Warhammer Online and I have too much free time atm.

So I'm wondering if you have any suggestions on how to start from scratch as a newbie. Where to begin...

I just set up the local development environment and it works fine, so i got that going for me :)

But when I looked at the source code, a imaginary face appeared on my screen and told me to "gtfo u dumbfuck. Keep doing fancy CSS ****. You're too dumb for this."

So I'd really appreciate any tipps on how to begin with this.

Kind regards,

Cornerback

You need around at least 3 posts to be able to PM others. It's to stop bot accounts spamming PMs to people.

To clarify this a bit more:
I want to expand my programming skills. The pserver seems to be a great opportunity to do so, because I'm really interested in WAR and gameservers.
However, the WarEmu from the github repo contains a pretty big load of sourcecode, so i have no idea where to actually start digging into this.

Some tipps where I should start or what to look at first will be enough I guess.
