The gear grind is the shortest it has ever been since I started in 2020, and the grind to renown 80 can definitely take a while - but there are plenty of incredibly strong gear sets along the way that you'll pick up super quickly, and anyone that tells you that you won't be able to compete until you're RR80 and wearing best in slot gear is just making excuses for themselves tbh. It's a MMO, half the fun is in the journey of powering up your character, so just give it a go and enjoy the experience is what I'd say

So whaddya "reckon" - should I ride this wave of nostalgia to (possible) fame and glory, or let it wash over me and move on? Any info/guidance/advice/limericks/etc greatly appreciated.
Dont worry so much about end game. Looks like you didnt even installed game. Just get it, log in and play around. Old good memories will come back as it seem like you played WAR. Its not like you being thrown as low rank into pool of 80s sharks. You can do scs with people around your rank, join WBs for RvR, do some dungeons to gear up. If you not sure what to play just start with typical archetype, tank, heal and dps up to rank 16 and decide what you like the most.

Here you got guidelines when and where to gear up along the way to rank 40, then you got plenty of options: Gunbad +/- Beastlords --> BB/BE/CnT (city dungeons) --> Bastion Stairs or RvR/SC gear.

i started in january this year, and i can say that it was faster to just get gear directly from gear bags instead of grinding crests. much better feeling as well. also all the other purple items that got deleted from <purple keep bags....
