what does toughness mitigate?

Hello. My understanding is that toughness mitigates all kinds of damage except morale damage and damage from abilities that don't scale off offensive stats. In conversation with ppl ingame someone said that toughness mitigates everything except morale damage. I always though there are some procs such as WE/WH kisses/bullets, Witchbrew etc that dont increase their damage with str so they are not mitigated by toughness. Can anyone confirm/clarify? Thank you.

Toughness acts as a subtractive value against main stat dmg such as STR or INT. So if someone hits you, lets say with 900 STR with your 100 toughness, the resulting effective STR for that attack is 800.

Procs cannot be avoided and only reduced by resists.

Confirm. As per Scottx125's post above, Toughness effectively reduces the Strength/Intelligence/Ballistic Skill/etc of the attacker. If the attack/proc hitting you doesn't get any bonus from Strength/etc then it's damage will not be reduced by Toughness either.

The formula is (assuming melee, you can work out magic/ranged):

Ability DPS bonus = (Strength + Melee Power - Toughness - Fortitude) / 5

And then every ability or source of damage like procs will multiply that ability DPS bonus by something to determine how much extra damage the ability/proc/etc does. For almost all procs, that multiplier is zero, so regardless of strength, toughness, etc, the resulting bonus damage is always zero (ability DPS bonus multiplied by zero is zero).

What is the best way to boost resists? Is it better to invest in toughness or resists?

There are resist talis as far as i know. But resist very soon soft capped and its not really worth it in the most of case.

Every class have one type resist tactic but its very weak. I hope the big balance patch will fix it.

There is also a cool pve jewelry set what gives a lot of resist i would chose that.

you should get resist buff if you play in a group. if you're running solo you can get it with a liniment, but idk... also there's a socket for sentinel/victorious ring, but you can probably slot something better

Toughness is most effective against little amounts of damage over a long duration. The meta has always been avoidance (block, parrt etc), crit reduction and then investment in main reduction stats such as toughness. Depending on your class, armour should be made to be at least 75%. Wounds are next, get to at least 9k. Then dump the rest into toughness. You normally get decent resistance from your gear up to 30-50% depending on your class, RP or KOTBS can buff the rest.

This article was from live, it is titled toughness vs wounds, however it breaks down all the defensive stats along with their formulas to see what is better over all.
