Are companions available?

I tried to purchase a Pitbull companion from the vendor but the button to open the shop doesn't open a shop to purchase it. Are companions available?

With dungeon speedrun coins you can buy pets.

Companions are given out as part of ingame events. There are no working vendors which offer them for any currency afaik.
You can buy the quests in Altdorf for them. I have done 3 so far.

Yes, you can get companions a few ways:

The most straightforward way is to pick up the Companion Coins, which are awarded via the Dungeon Weekly. Then you can trade these in for the Quest starters which lead you to the pets.
