Dev's please help the game we/you love!

Morning all and I hope this finds you in good stead!

After starting a post which was meant to be objectively non biased and try to lead to a healthy discussion, I noted it only created contention and discomfort to those that had invested a TON of time into the game we all loved from a long time ago and I understand and resonate with everyone's responses. Change is hard and uncomfortable, yet it is in the long term it is beneficial for everyone!

This follow-up is for the Dev's.

Please take note of what your player base is saying, even perhaps try and add your own voice to the forums so that your player base can see that you care. Even if its a negative stance or comment, something is better than nothing!

Don't you want your server to have tens of thousands of players instead of just having a couple hundred?

Suggestions I'd like to make for a positive growth of your game, taken from earlier discussions :

1. Create a Project, of which you outline a timeline for your player base. This will lead to us having a clear cut direction where we can add our value input.

2. Revamp archaic systems. If you cant do somethings, there's no shame in saying you can't so that your player base knows where moot topics of discussion are at.

3. Start things like yearly competitions or long term storyline events, driven by players!

4. Connect with your player(s) that are trying to create positive long term growth of your game. Have a roundtable with them and see how you two can partner up and create good for your own server.

I hope that the start of this will allow the creation of a project list/scope for you guys, where everyone (Including you as Dev's) can have a voice for ideas of positive growth and suggestions.

God bless and I wish you all a blessed day!

As far as I'm aware, the devs have always been pretty open to suggestions for new content or balance.

But, its still a volunteer emulator project, so ultimately it comes down to what the devs themselves want to work on. They're working for free, so they're not gonna devote months / years to projects they don't wanna do.

As far as im aware, there are two major projects underway.

The first is the class-balance project. They've "completed" tanks and healers, next up is DPS class, then after that they intend to focus on something alone the lines of iconic builds. These balance patches aren't just tweaking numbers, they have included pretty major reworks of some of the classes.

The second is the PvE dungeons project. Right now, they are working on the Lost Vale dungeon, which will be the highest level dungeon and offer the dark promise gearset. It's scheduled to be released sometime over the summer (so soon!!). This follows a revamp of HV earlier in the year.

That's on top of the usual bug fixes, new events, and smaller bits of content like new quests or updating PQs.

You can find a roadmap and general schedule for the PvE and Dungeons side of things here: viewtopic.php?t=55452

The current team structure has different people leading and working on different sections of the game, so not all teams may publish similar roadmaps or share schedules; it just depends on their workload and who is leading. But pretty much all the teams are working on things, from PvE to Class Balance to RvR to Scenarios to new Cosmetics to new Voice Acting... the list goes on!

Do you have any concept of the amount of time and effort that has gone into this project? There was no source code leaked, it was all made from scratch and paired into a client with little understanding and reverse engineered with trial an error approach. That gives us a free game which has been running for longer than the official live version did, has more players daily than many "AAA" games and its all mostly functional, that in itself is a historic feat.

You sprout nothing but vagarities, a timeline of what? They cant promise what isnt immediately on the horizon because you never know if someone stops working on it for what could be a myriad of reasons all of which are acceptable because they are donating their own time and effort for nothing.

"archatic systems?" like what? Its a near 20 year old client and MMO, its not fortnite.

Connect with the players? Have you ever played another game? The developers and staff here are impeccable in terms of interaction, here on the forums already a dev has replied to you, in Discord theres plenty.

If you have a suggestion than make it, detail it all out with what you think is a good idea and present it, maybe its stupid, maybe its a great idea, maybe its not technically feasible but you dont know until its looked at but a "round table" where every random thought is spat at the devs will be forgotten in seconds.

I can guarantee you non of them are sitting around waiting for someone to tell them what to do because there are a million things that are being worked on.

Ideas are not in short supply, thats not to say yours may not be even better but as I said, make your presentation, the interaction is up to you and your efforts.

You must have learned the game fast to gain the knowledge on what feedback to give.

Just because they haven't been at ROR for 15 years doesn't mean their feedback is invalid. There's a lot of other games in the genre they could have thousands of hours in and are immediately picking up on our flaws because of it.

Appreciate you coming back with this, AsylumZA

Your first post was rough but real. Anyone who has been new here solo knows what that feels like. You laid it out bluntly and even if some of it rubbed people wrong, you were just being honest. I respect that you followed it up with a post that shows you want things to improve and not just complain

The devs and staff are paying attention. I know sometimes it feels like things are quiet on the forums but there is always something being worked on. Rubius already posted the PvE roadmap and there is work happening across the board with balance, bug fixes, events, and more. Some stuff is small and some big but progress is always moving

You brought up roundtables and I want to clear up that we already have those. We call them focus groups. Each part of the project has a lead that brings in players based on the work at hand. Could be PvE testers, bug reporters, RvR folks, class balance input, dungeon feedback, live event ideas, all of it. These groups grow when needed and fade back when they are not

If you or anyone wants to be in that mix, the best thing you can do is show up and contribute. That is where we pull people from. Players who are active and care and bring something helpful to the table. It is not locked away or secret. It is just practical and based on what is going on at the time

Really appreciate you taking time to come back with something more constructive. It does not go unnoticed

If there is anything close to warhammer online please let me know so that I can finally play something else.
