Raidframe frustrations regarding distance and LOS as a healer

Hey, I'm new to the game so go easy on me if I've missed something glaringly obvious here, but I can't seem to figure this one out:
I came to this game to scratch a raidheal-itch and I picked up a zealot and all is dandy, until I get into a warband. The warband frames (I use Enemy for this) tells me that warbandmembers are in range, by showing a full alpha HP bar, but when I click them to cast a heal it immediately dims the alpha and tells me "I can't see that character". In a setting with multiple warbands and lots of people running around (it's like picking out your school of fish in the ocean) it means that I potentially could be in range of every warbandmember, yet having to click through each and everyone to discover that no ne are in LOS of me. Is there really no way to get this game to verify if a unit is within LOS (and range) and then displaying that information (preferrably on a unitframe)?
I suppose you'll get a hang of this after spending countless hours in this game, finally aquiring a supernatural spatial awareness, but then again I'm not sure if randomly clicking frames to see if I actually is what it tells me it is is the optimal way for me to spend countless of hours... This seems like such an obvious flaw in the base design that I'm hoping SO HARD that I'm just doing something wrong here.
Does anyone have a solution or explanation to this? Thanks.
