Playing like it is your first MMORPG

Hey all. I have been playing MMORPGs for almost 22 years now. I started with World of Warcraft. And ever since the very first day, I made a decision to TAKE MY TIME and get as much out of it as I could. Being able to be in an incredible game world where there are thousands of things to do and see, was just phenomenal. But it wasn't just the IP, but being able to live in this incredible new world.

A few years later I started playing WAR and it has always been my #2 fav of all time. And thanks to the RoR Team, I can continue enjoying it.

However, I don't want anyone here to get sucked into the same traps that others from different MMORPGs get sucked into. Basically, they end up sabotaging their own experience by playing certain ways. So, here are some tips to keep you from getting bored, feeling jaded or bitter, and never feeling burnout.

1 - DO NOT play too many hours each day - I know, we all get excited and wanna play forever but we need to have breaks and time doing others things in order to appreciate the game more. I'll try to play no more than 3-4 hrs each day when I can. And usually, I can split it up and do an hour or so early and a few hrs later. But everyone is different. Just try not to make more than half your day just playing.

2 - Experience everything - even things you think you don't like or wouldn't be into - being able to craft, RVR in lake, join scenarios, enter dungeons, lairs, hunt heros/champ mobs, explore, look for secrets and epic quests, collect things like ToK stuff or anything else and more - all adds to your experience and gives you a fuller experience

3 - Take your time - enjoy what you are doing and be in the moment. While one player may rush through a quest in 1-2 mins, others can take 10-15 mins on that quest. Don't just do the objectives/tasks of the quest, but engage in anything else in between doing those things, and then in between each quest. Really read the quest text and the ToK entries as they come up - they add so much more to the gameplay. We all get excited to RVR or run a dungeon or do this or that, but that doesn't mean we have to go super fast. And that brings me to my next point...

4 - never, ever RUSH - there is no point in rushing, unless you are "rushing across the battlefield" or something lol. Enjoy yourself. Relax. Have fun. Don't cause your own stress by putting limits on your gameplay. Let's say you want a certain armor set that needs you to collect 1800 War Crests. As long as you continue playing, you will eventually earn them. Whether its in 2 weeks or 2 months or 2 years. have fun in RVR and scenarios and anything else, but you don't need to be super intense and crazy about it. Get into it, but know there are many ways to earn currencies. Talk to people in your group or warband. Work with others. Take breaks between rvr to enjoy everything else. Sometimes if you focus solely on earning that one currency, you could miss out on other fun things that won't really cause you to wait much longer. But will add more to your experience.

5 - try out some light action RP - throw out a phase or two in a battle, use emotes towards players and NPCs, immerse yourself in the lore and "be dat big un smasha ork ya now?" or "fight with the blessing of Sigmar!" or "Malekith charged me with arranging your torture. First, we kill the women!" or whatever else. It will be fun for you but really fun for those who get to see or read it.

6 - don't think you know everything there is to know about the game or warhammer - you don't. If you have read thousands of books from the black library and built the original WAR, then maybe you might. We can all learn from others and share game and grow together.

Lastly, remember that this is a game and not a life simulator. Nothing will be perfect because there are restraints and limits. Love the game for what it IS and not what you think it should be. We are all here, spending our free time, to enjoy this amazing game experience. We should be friends and have fun together - always! We are so lucky to be able to play RoR and every day we get to log in, you should silently or publicly thank the RoR Team, as well as all the players who helped make this a reality.

Something I learned from WoW was that the players who are always rushing, skipping content, not reading quest text, skipping cinematics or story bits, and choosing to grind - end up becoming the most bitter, craven people who ruined their own experience and since they have no control or patience, they continue to play the same way that caused them to be like that.

A break is not a bad thing if you need it. No one is perfect and many of us are still learning, whether at 80reknown or not. Let's all work together and remember to enjoy the full game so that everyone has a great time!
