I think we need clarity on this

Hi There

Part of the Warhammer experience was making friends in the real world through the game...

I understand that this is forbidden? That you are not allowed to share personal information in this game? (Your terms & conditions)

Some of my friends in the real world are playing on this server, and obviously when we chat to each other privately we are sharing information about our personal lives in some way or the other.

Is this also considered illegal?

Why are we not allowed to share personal information?

And what is considered personal information?

What happens if someone starts Team Speak or VOIP server? That is pretty personal

By personal i think they mean your name/age/location and anything else you wouldn't want random people to know ingame. But Vent and Teamspeak are totally different as it wouldn't be considered ingame. My guild operates out of Ventrillo as do most guilds. Those terms really do not apply outside of the game, and i doubt it really matters with this emulator, believe those were the terms of the original game

And usually personal information like full names addresses credit card information and stuff like that. It part of the catch all that the game makers will not ask you this info in game and you should not share it in game. This is supposed to protect you from people pretending to be mods convincing you to share info that can lead to identity theft. Most my guild mates know my real name and where I live. But that's because I felt comfortable sharing that with them.

I agree with you guys on what the ToS should mean, but it literally says you're not allowed to share personal information about yourself:

"Disseminating the real-world personal information of any player, including yourself."

Edit: technicaly, this could even prohibit you from saying "looking for French/Russian/German/whatever guild" in /ad.

This TOS is much much better than any other paid-mmo's TOS.

Mostly because it's not written by fake lawyers who don't know the law. It's written by players that established common-sense rules.

By most TOS they ban everything on your computer, including windows/vent/ts/mumble.

I agree with you on that, Valnak, but I think it could be improved even more by removing that specific prohibition. I wonder if it was put there to absolve the project of any legal responsibilty.

Clause: "Disseminating the real-world personal information of any player, including yourself" is prohibited.
Context: This clause appears under the "Chat and Player Interaction" section. To me, this clause means you can't share any personal info in any way, shape or form IN GAME (PM/say/advice/group/guild/etc.)

Key to this is what the devs consider "personal info." Is Vent/TS information considered "personal information of any player?" If not, once you leave RoR and are on Vent -- where RoR has zero enforcement rights -- you can do whatever the heck you want. If Vent/TS info is considered private, then anyone who shares it is violating ToS. How else can people share Vent info if they're not allowed to do it in game? And what about guilds that have FB pages with members who met on RoR? Will those players be banned for sharing "personal info?" Of course not.

I think it's intentionally vague. I wouldn't blame the devs one bit if they don't clarify this, because if something goes wrong, the dev who clarifies it could theoretically be held liable.

My 2 cents: Go make RL friends in Vent and let this thread die. Just because something has to be in writing to protect the devs for obscure eventualities doesn't necessarily mean you're being watched and/or will face punishment. If the devs had to ban everyone who violated any part of ToS, RoR would be a ghost town. Don't hack, don't dupe, don't impersonate a dev, don't multibox, don't harass, don't threaten, don't SPAM -- basically, don't be a douche -- and you'll be fine.

I don't get it, why are people saying things like this? It isn't productive, mine wasn't much better but at least it wasn't insulting.

Insulting? For real? You took a few words out of an entire post, killing the context. You're the one who made it insulting, pal. Those who are so thin-skinned that they get insulted THIS easily probably shouldn't be playing a PVP-centric game or posting on related forums. Sorry if that "insults" you. :::smh:::

What people are saying is that no one is stopping you from making friends on this game. You can exchange personal information outside the game such as over Vent or TeamSpeak. They want you to refrain from giving out personal information on chat in the game.
