It's time to Profile our DDOS'er

Please - look at the facts. Games right now that are active and fully backed have the following types of restrictions:

http://support.enmasse.com/tera/will-en ... -on-region

1. En Masse will block IPs based on region. Asia, Africa, and the Middle East are included on the block list. While we appreciate that there are players in these regions who would enjoy playing on En Masse servers, it's unfortunate that the vast majority of Internet traffic we see from these regions are from cyber-criminals relating to account theft, gold-farming and other hacking behavior.

2. Although we do not block them by default, a proxy or server host will be blocked if it becomes a popular tool for criminal behavior.

I know blocking IP's sounds horrible, but I think certain regions need to be blocked. I think this would definitely help as these are the regions that have the vulnerable resources available for DDOS'ers to confiscate and use against a site/server.

a lot of players from Destro side come from Russia. I am not sure if excluding it would actually be benefitial

Post a few of the ips hitting the server. It's not that hard to turn a botnet against its owner ;)

There's a lot of Russians on both Order and Destruction side, we are all aware :P
However, as the OP said, the most risk of DDOS attacks are coming from Middle-Eastern, African and Asian zombie PCs connected to a botnet. Whether or not the command is executed from Russia, it will always be the zombie computers used in a DDOS that need to have their connection denied.

I do not think the RoR devs feel like fighting fire with fire when it can get them in trouble with the law.

No, that would be giving in. Besides the playerbase are not inconvenienced, maybe the the devs a little, but progress still continues on future development in the meantime as the message on Facebook has stated. Sure it sucks not to get our fix, but none of us are deterred from playing one bit. The server comes up, the playerbase returns, DDoS'r accomplishes nothing. We win!
