Some thoughts on the economy of the game

Hi there,
The impending gold reset, which doesn't concern me in the least as my max amount of gold has never gone beyond two figures, has nevertheless caused some negative reactions among many players, who have expressed their discomfort at the prospect of being dispossessed of their hard earned currency through no fault of their own. In my opinion, the measure has some undesirable side effects but is maybe unavoidable, given the amount of illegal exploiting going on among some players who have no ethics or scruples to counteract their greed and who damage all of us and the game in general. All in all, I can't blame the devs for devising this extreme measure, as they are left with no other choice. (In fact I don't think we could blame the devs for anything, as we are playing this game thanks to their unselfish effort)
That being said, I think that the problem arises form the fact that good items derive mainly from pve mobs drops, with a really low rate to boot. Th efact that no items are BoP just make it worse. I would suggest creating an economical situation where only a very small amount of currency is needed to purchase the desired items. If the top stuff comes from rewards acquired through the completion of renown levels, the need to spend hours and hours farming in pve is eliminated and everyone will be able to wear the best gear as they level their renown. That would contribute to more equality in equipment, allowing skill to be more of a factor in the matchups, and also would eliminate the need to possess enormous amounts of gold to be competitive.
I'm sure I have overlooked some obvious points and I'm open to any criticism, in case anyone bothers to read my wall of text.
